Hey Michael. Um, hey Michael. What what do you remember? Hey Michael. What do you remember? Hey Michael. What do you remember? Hey Michael. I'm sorry. Michael. How you doing? Hey, we're recording the podcast. Got up. Good morning to you. Wherever you are because it is morning somewhere. 4 September 15, 2020. 6. My name is Bernie Burns setting your own milestones over there. It's actually Burns say hi to Ashley everybody. Got to set some kind of milestones. I said a milestone today. Do you know what it was? What's what was your milestone? I forgot to send backpacks to school with the kids. Oh no, that's my fault. No, that's my fault. I didn't. I put them in the car. We're kind of dividing duty. So I thought I'll put them in the car and then they were out in the courtyard and go, hey guys, you didn't get your backpacks. I was like, you know what? I'll, your mom will bring out your backpacks. I'll get them in the car with them. That's my fault. I think it's like, if it's like age is getting out of the car
school and I was like, are you having trouble with your backpack or something and he looks around. He goes, I don't know how my backpack. And I was like, thin. It's my fault. It's so like, I was like, buddy, don't leave the house without your backpack. That is 100% my fault. I am really sorry about that. It's fine, but it does mean I'm running back to the school after this. Okay. Oh, jeez, really? What's in the backpack? They need snacks and water bottles. It's snacks. Super snack, water bottle, change of clothes. It's really wet. We had a long discussion about the snack today too. We did. Today's a rare treat because he has some chocolate in his... It's a tonnix tea cake which is basically a giant marshmallow covered in chocolate. It's quite the snack. And this is a lovely snack. And so he... Please step up from carrots and strawberries. I know. I know every day we have to set him to school the snack. And so he always complains to me because his classmates get bags of crisps and stuff. And he gets cucumber sticks and carrots or apple slices. You're flexing a little bit. I have a little bit. A little bit. I'm... You know, but what he's saying is like... It's a good flex though.
Is... I'm not a cool mom. So today... Today or a cool mom? I was gonna send him with a marshmallow. Instead, I sent him with jack shit. Yeah. You were gonna be super mom, but then you face planted right at the goal line, basically. I did. Yeah, too bad. So, but then they need their water bottle though. All the kids in Britain. Yeah, so it's fun. I'll... Have to have their water bottle. Although today they could just go outside and turn their face to the sky because today is one of those days that's so wet. All the sensors in the car were like, I can't help you. I don't like people walking slowly. I don't like people with backpacks. I don't like people with backpacks on their front. You love my children. I don't like people with backpacks and water bottles. I don't like water bottles. What's the whole water bottle thing? Why do my children have to go to school with a water... They have to cart water across London. What's wrong with the drinking fountain? We're part of the problem. Actually, we're solving the problem today. They have neither backpacks nor water bottles. You know what they're doing today? They're raw dog and reality. Is that what it is? Yeah, I think it's just dehydration. That's what that is. Dehydration and chocolate for lunch, basically. Basically. All right, we'll get it solved. That's my fault though.
I'm going to apologize. We thought we were dividing and conquering and we were doing the exact opposite. We spread ourselves into the... We're dividing and face-planting. We left our supply lines exposed. And then... They blitz-created and got us actually. Damn it. All right, that's my fault. I'm sorry about that. Anyway, it's all right. But we know that we're probably not the people to run a war. So the Emmys were last night? They were. I thought Emmys were on Sundays. Am I crazy? Maybe they changed it. On Monday now? So anyway, Emmys were last night. And lots of crazy stuff. So, Widow's Bay won for Best Comedy and got a ton of wins in general. But the major takeaways for me is that Matthew Reese won two Emmys. He won Best Lead in a limited series and Best Lead in a comedy series. Is that how you say his name, Reese? Reese, Matthew Reese? I mean, I think so. I think so. Something I didn't know about, Matthew Reese, who I know from the series, The Americans. Yeah. He's Welsh? He's Welsh, yeah. Well, I have kind of a blind spot
for people in my life who marry Kerry Russell. That's good. I don't learn a lot about those people. Try to stay with them. Is there ultimate jealousy? I had a big crush on Kerry Russell and the Felicity era. If I got a really cool thing, I have a JJ Abrams signed. Is it? JJ Abrams or Matt Reeves signed a box set for Felicity. And it's too bad. It's to Bernie, the prettiest princess. You think I would know who signed that? You think I would think he would. I think it's got to be JJ Abrams. It's got to be JJ Abrams. It's got to be JJ Abrams. An old friend of mine can't gave that to me. And I thought, what is a lovely gift? Lovely gift. But yeah, a big crush on her during the Felicity era. Speaking of which, there's controversy around another celebrity crush. Sydney Swini has now done a gambling ad for one of these gambling sites. Yes, sport sports betting ones. Yeah, it's all sports. Have you seen the ad? No, I have it. All I heard was that Sydney Swini took off for clothes for a sports betting ad. And I was like, Yeah, I know. And I was like, Slip their babe. What? You said sports, bang.
That's a different genre. And I just like, I don't care about any of the things. And I really don't care about sports betting. And her taking off for clothes is not going to get me to care about sports betting. So, you know, I know I haven't checked it out yet. I see this is the, we just had a discussion recently. Me and a friend, my exander about separating the art from the artist and stuff like that. And it's just like, you can't do that these days. So it's really tough for me when someone I like gets involved with something I don't like. And then it completely challenges everything. And now it's like, I got to stick with who I am at my core and go with what works for me. So I guess I'm super into gambling now. This could be a old hailing podcast for me. Get your gambling tips here. But Sydney Swini was not at the Emmys last night. She was not, she was not nominated. Jean Smart was the big winner for lead actress in a comedy series. She won. This is, I believe it's her fifth consecutive win for the show Hacks. So I have to ask you a question, Bernie,
because I've watched the show. It's a fantastic show. Have you considered watching Hacks? Yes, but I think I've said this before. Every time I read the name Hacks, I confuse it with a different show that is nothing at all like Hacks. Well, you confuse it with. With the Nick Offermen show called Devs. And I every time you watched and Devs. I know. And I'm like, they made another season of that show every single time. I read about it every single time. Yeah, Jean Smart was fantastic in Devs. Yeah, I'm like, how could I make it this day over? She was hilarious in the show Devs. The fame was comedy. You've described Hacks to me a few different times. It sounds a lot like Marvelous Miss Maisel. Um, yes and no. So the initial premise is that like a young like a Gen Z gets a job working for a very experienced like female comedian in Vegas. And it's so it's a collision of generations, comedic sensitivities, all sorts of different things.
The dynamic between the characters is fantastic. Like they're all, you can't call them shitty people. They're deeply flawed. Um, but they're not like bad people. Well, I mean, sometimes they do some pretty shitty stuff. But that's like more than everyone is deeply flawed in a way that works well for comedy. I think. Okay, well, I will check it out at some point. It's in my back. I gotta watch Windows Bay first. Windows Bay, by the way, one for best comedic series. Not just that one. It won a ton last night. So that was one of the big winners last night. Correct. Alongside alongside Matthew Reese and Jean Smart for having like runaway sessions at the Emmys. But to run down really quickly, the pit one drama series, with us Bay one comedy series, DTF St. Louis one limited or anthology series, know a while one for the pit. Wiley. Yeah, Wiley. No, Wiley. No, Wiley. Rhea Seahorn one for lead actress in a drama series for Pluribus. And then of course Matthew Reese one lead actor in a comedy series.
Jean Smart for Hacks for comedy series actress. And then Matthew Reese won again for the beast in me, which was the limited best actor in a limited series. Even though that limited series didn't also win best series. Another thing I'd understand too is you mentioned Noah Wiley in there who is now repeating as lead actor, best lead actor in a dramatic series. The other award that Matthew Reese was for, I think a like a Netflix short form series. That was his, that he had the widow's bay for comedy and then he had no words. Yeah, that was the beast in me. The beast in me, right? So he's got the, he got two awards in one night. That's a big deal. I think it's a record that one. Two two lead actor awards in one night. Yeah, that'd be crazy, right? That's a good night. That's a pretty good night. And then Sally Field won lead actress for an anthology series for a Markly Bright series. And that is her fourth Emmy that she's gotten, apparently, which sets everything I read about the recap. They kept calling her thing a milestone. But they didn't really say what the milestone was, just a milestone. It's a milestone. Isn't a milestone a win any Emmy? I was gonna say every Emmy is a milestone.
And it's like my second Emmy would also be a milestone. First Emmy, a milestone. Third Emmy, guess what? Believe it or not, milestone. Milestone, throw milestones. This is the third mile of the mile way sthones that we're marking. But it was really interesting because I saw an interview recently with, was supposed to be one of these British radio shows with Noel Wiley. The pit is not a sequel to ER. It's like a spiritual successor to the show ER, which ran forever on television in the 90s. Yeah, it's like different characters and stuff. But the same sort of scenario, it's like an emergency room. And I think one of the conceits of the show is that it's kind of like 24 and it's like it's a real time sort of section of their day. Oh, okay. Each episode is. Yeah. Not that like, you know, every episode is like the next 30 minutes, but it's just like 30, you know, or like it's like a segment of their day in the emergency room. There are certain things that are always a staple. You can always have on the air a hit show about an emergency room or about a detective department that investigates homicides.
Like there's some things that'll just never not be interesting. You know what? Every single network can have like, can check all those boxes. They can each have one of those shows. And they'll all probably do pretty well. I don't know why we're so into, you know, like medical stuff and into cop stuff. Maybe it's just because it's like an easy format for serial storytelling and like having like a new case. Yeah. Every week makes for easy like episodes. Must be interesting though. Like of all the careers like medicine is one that's really interesting. Where I think make most medicine would be pretty boring from day to day, right? Can you imagine if you went to medical school like the whole thing because you thought these shows were really cool. And then you became a doctor and you're like, oh shit, this is boring. Yeah, what is the most career? Because so advertising is spreading blood. What's the deal? Advertising's had a big show. Lawyers always have big shows. Cops always have big shows. Is there any show about engineers? Is there anything like that? We're like, they're building buildings. I think it's called the Big Bang Theory, Bernie. It's called the hacks. That's what they do about it.
They develop stuff. They made another season of that. But there's this was an interesting interview I thought they gave where, of course now, no wily who, we're being fair, wasn't really the talk of the town between ER and the pit. But now he's winning all these awards. So it's easy to talk about that. But then now people now, these on this big hit show, people are saying all the stuff of like going back to ER and stuff like, hey, we'd have George Clooney on the show and stuff like that. Because George Clooney was his big compadre on ER. In fact, they did a weird crossover where they were on friends as their characters. Like they went to another show. So wait, hold on, ER canonically exists in the same universe as friends. Correct. Correct. I'm not even sure what the hospital is. I don't remember. I watched that show for a long time. But yeah, so those doctors ended up on friends. Okay. At least George Clooney and no wily did together as well. And I think they played doctors. I'm not sure if they played their actual characters. Let's see if they did. Now that we think about it. But here's a British broadcaster asking no wily if he'll have George Clooney on the show.
George Clooney says, if I'm allowed to be, I am so deeply, deeply proud of Noah. He was then asked if he would make a return to the ER and do the pit. Do you know what he said, Noah? What did he say? In our heartbeat. Perhaps his last heartbeat. Would you like to have George back in your ear? You see how I keep ducking that question? Yeah, you see how I keep going back. He doesn't really want to come on the pit. But why does George ever put me in one of his movies? True, George. So now I'm on a hit show he wants to come and play. Last 15 years. Where has he been? Hey, leave that with me. Oceans 12, 13. Exactly. Never made the cut. It's really interesting. It's a very honest moment, right? It is. There's all this opportunity where if we were going to work together and we're so paired together, how come it's only a one-way relationship? Right. Oh, he would love to come on my TV show that's doing so well. That's wonderful to hear. But I didn't see him putting me in any of his movies. Apparently I had my phone on silent for the last 15 years. No, that's a really honest thing to say. I, you know, I put that. It is. Yeah. It is. That's a keeping it real.
Keeping it real, Ashley, as it were. All right. What else is going on in the world besides television news? Oh, for God's sake, so many things. So NASA's figured out how to make cookies out of plastic for one. Hey, can I tell you something too? Like here, it doesn't bug me because I'm sharing it with myself. But a lot of times now I click on links that people put in like comments and stuff. What's the new thing with share links for like media platforms like YouTube and TikTok and Instagram and whatever? Where share links now dox you. Right. Yeah. When you share stuff. If you go to share something, it'll go like so and so shared this with you. And then it's like, do you want to follow them? It's like, no, I followed a link. What are they? Like some kind of magical link curator to fuck what I follow them. And let me give you a specific example of this where someone on Reddit who has a name like Hobnober27, like they read it is a handle-based platform where sometimes people with their anonymity will make posts that they don't want other people to know that they're making, right? And then they'll share a link on something to Instagram,
which is not typically an anonymous platform. And then it's like, no, a while you shared this with you. Right. Right. Follow it. Oh my god. You're Hobnober24? No, a while. No idea. Yeah. No, but that's interesting. Like when did they do that? Like they just started telling you, for instance, I'll click on that link on Reddit. It takes me to Instagram and it said, you know, Kyle Conner shared this link with you. Do you want to follow them? It's like, well, I know now this person's name is Kyle Conner and I can find out everything about this Reddit user if I want to. Yeah. It did. And it's, you can go through and you can like delete the, like the bit of the, that will tell people like who shared it and back it off to just a regular link. But you kind of have to know looking at a URL, how to do that. You have to go through it once, right? And you might be sending out links like some people share and some people consume except shares. So you might be sharing things over and over again before you realize it's doing that. And it's letting people know, right? Because if you don't click the link or if you click your own link, it's not going to prompt you to follow yourself. In fact, when we discovered that we for our link dumps,
when people would send us links, we would take all that extra sharing information out of there. It would be great too if that was a setting now and like your OS and your iOS, where you could just say like everything after the question mark, don't include that. Yeah. If you could have a set like a, like a cut the shit setting, that would be great. Cut the shit setting. Also, I hate the fact when I go to send some links sometimes. And it's like a link to like one article on a new site. But then when you go to actually get the URL, it's like 12 paragraphs long. What is it? It's like a ton of garbage. It wants to know everything about you. I assume it's sending like the time of day, your exact location, you know, whether you've watched hacks or if you still confused it with devs. It sends everything it can about you. Why did you say time of day? Now I'm going to get very angry. Okay. So I had to set an appointment to talk to someone in the central time zone. And I thought they sent me the time. So I'm just going to put it in. It put it in my Google calendar as like they said, the meetings at 2 p.m. central time. So they just send it as 2 p.m. For whatever reason, it put it in as 2 p.m. my time.
I'm like, I don't want to be in a, you know, Google meet, which is essentially going to be 8 a.m. their time, right? So I need to just go in instead of changing the time and doing the math on it, which I just did in my head. I'm just going to change this like time zone on this Google calendar event to central time in the United States. I cannot find central time in the United States on God damn Google calendar. I go to look at the time zones. It gives me 45 fucking time zones. And it's not even like it's not in Chicago. None of them are Chicago. It's none of them are Chicago. None of them are Dallas. Do you want to hear all the ones that you could set this to? Please. Yes. If you type in, I tried it America. I tried Chicago. I tried Dallas. I tried Central. I tried Central Standard. This is for Central Standard. These are all the things you can get. Algeria, Australia, Belize, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Tunisia. All of those things, I cannot find America in Google calendar of all the places where I'm forced to go
to conference calls. We're all forced to do business with America. Why doesn't fucking Google calendar have God damn America in their fucking time zone? Well, what if we just agreed to book all meetings in Tunisia time? I'm going to miss my call with George Clooney for fuck's sake. This is my shot at Google calendar. He's trying to invite you and Google is going to stop it. It seems like a thing they're trying to do and they've gone too far with it, right? They're trying to remove the US centrity. It's too much. I literally bring back a little bit. I literally can't find the Central Time Zone in the middle of the United States. I literally cannot find it. I don't know what it's labeled. I've looked it up on support stuff and like, well, they don't use this time zones. They use this. They use some kind of I can time zone things. So whatever. So try this or try that. It's like, I even set a secondary time zone. Still can't fucking do it. It makes no goddamn sense to me. It's ridiculous. It's fucking ridiculous. Well, I'm sorry to hear you'll miss your meeting. And before anybody points out that I'm looking up standard time
and it's currently daylight time, I know I'm trying to set an event in the future. That's what I'm trying to do. Here, look, you know what? I'm going to help you out. I'm going to do a little test. Okay. Can I admit something? I'm not scheduling a conference call. I was putting the Longhorn's football calendar in my calendar. You're scheduled for the rest of your calendar. That's what I was doing. All right. I'm going to help you out here. I'm going to do a little test. Oh god. Please don't. So I'm in Google calendar and I'm going to create a new event. All right. Time zone. Okay. It's going to come up. It's in me. I'm going to tell you a central time. Okay. Um, event time zone. Okay. It says type to search for a city or country. Okay. I just want. I just want. I just want central. Okay. Here are my options. You ready? I have centralea, Pennsylvania. Centralia, Washington. Centralia, Illinois. Central city, Colorado. Central Point, Oregon. Central Eastlip, New York. Central South Carolina. Central, mean is, Grease, Brazil. Central Falls, Rhode Island. Central Square, New York,
or Central Lake, Missouri. If you don't want it in one of those centrals, I can't help you. Well, you can look up Chicago, then I guess or Dallas. Well, you look. I probably can't. Can't I? Why can I not look those? Yep. I've got Chicago. I literally cannot look up a city. I have like three different Google accounts. None of them will let me look up a city for a time zone. But not only do I have Chicago, I also have Chicago Heights, Chicago Ridge, Chicago Park, North Chicago, East Chicago. Just in case those are in different time zones. You know, that reminds me of that. It reminds me of one of my favorite stories for back in the Rushi days, where we were doing events. And people said, are you ever going to come to my town? I want to say it was like Chicago. And we were like, while you're in luck, because in two weeks, we're going to be in Chicago at this theater. And they were like, yeah, but that's in downtown central Chicago. That's like, that's really funny. Are you ever coming to East Chicago? They're like, we can't help it. We just can't help. There's nothing more than can be done. Yeah, we'll put that on the list for our next mall tour.
This is why George Clooney never retired. Can't be all one way. Now I'm not going to be on the pit or in like ocean. Ocean of 18. Whatever they're up to at this point. Yeah. I wonder if they're working on that prequel. I keep hearing that there's going to be a prequel with like Margot Robbie in it. But that's the all I've ever heard of it. So it might be one of those like, a femoral fever dream movies. Do you know ocean's 11 is remake? I do. Yeah, I wasn't in that. Yeah, I was going to say that was like a rap pack movie or something. Right. So how weird did they make that movie not knowing that in the future? There's going to be 80 billion pieces of media produced every single calendar year. And not a single one of them called no wily. And not a single one in the central time. So in America, because it doesn't fucking this. That's it. Central time has been banned. God damn it. So fucking ridiculous. Anyway, sorry. Do you ever, I wonder if it's a little bit like, you know, when you fly over like you're in an airplane and it shows you like, here's like the cities that you're, you know, flying past or whatever. And there's like Billings, Montana.
And it's like, why Billings? Right. Like why'd you pick that? Why why am I flying over Tunisia right now? I don't I don't need to know about that. Okay, just go and find me central. That's all I want Ashley. That's all I want Austin's on and they're tried that first. No luck there. Dallas, Chicago, nothing ridiculous. It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. Done. Done. Well, may I come for you with a space cookie? And when I share the conference link, I got doxed by the platform as well. Right. Do you want to follow Bernie? Yeah. What do we want to cookie for? What? Oh, so some NASA back scientists have figured out you're going to love this a way to turn plastic waste into edible cookies. They turn plastic waste into edible cookies for humans? Well, I mean, I'm not going to be the first human who's going to try one. But yes, they said they use some yeast to turn plastic waste into protein rich cookies with the idea that then this could become like some magical future food. If they're like, I don't know,
needing to like take cookies to the colony on Mars or something. They turned plastic into fucking cookies for people to eat. I'm just saying that the the great Pacific garbage patch could be our next agro- All right. Well, that doesn't for us today. Tuesday, September 15th, 2026.
