So the angels and having their problems down here last night and extra innings for the second time they went through 13 innings for the Oakland ball club and came away at the end. The left hander now warming up is Darryl Knowles, who was acquired from the Washington Senators. Ron Klimkowski is the right hander. And Knuckleball already fissures. By the same score, the Boston Red Sox knocked off the Washington Senators 3-2, Ray Culp, the winner, he is 5-3, Jerry Jenesky took the loss, 1-4.

And make no mistake about it, he has done his part so far this year. A ball and a strike on Mundey, Bando away from first. LaRose looks over there and comes to the plate with a strike.

3:14:46One ball and two strikes. This one just straight smokes over the outside corner, one and two. McMullen charging in from third at that time looking for the sacrifice. But Mundey watching it just buzzed right down the middle. LaRose checking with Jerry Moses. He's ready. Long looked at first and comes to the plate. Mundey around about with two strikes on him and he strikes out. As he follows it away. So Mundey is a strike out victim. The second four. Young left-handed Dave LaRose. And in doing so with that swing, delivered some dirt of the play.

Klimkowski, a most unusual motion, almost has the old, satchel page hesitation pitch. He stops almost in midair, and the tall right-hander into the wind, and the fastball is outside, to LaRouche. One ball and no strike. A ball and no strikes on LaRouche,

3:33:13a five-five tie, and no playing in, just off the grass. At third, Klimkowski's 1-0 picks to LaRouche, swung on, a five-and-the-right center-field, back in a hurry, is the center-fielder Rick Monday, back in the warning track, makes the catch. LaRouche really got the wood, I don't know, he sent Monday deep, about 370 feet away, to pull down the drive. So one man away, that'll bring up the ax, Alex Johnson. Johnson intentionally walked his last time up, Alex is two-per-four this evening. Alex singled in the first, bounced back to Jim Hunter, the catfish in the third, struck out in the fourth, and singled in the seventh, drove in a very big run. Klimkowski into the line to pitch to the ax, fouled away, all on one. He got a great home stand, coming up. When the angels return home, not that long a home stand, but some interesting ball clubs that Gavin had a chance to see yet. Washington and Boston,

3:34:14two clubs. The old one picks to the ax, one on ground ball, into the hole, and the right side for a base hit. So Alex is three-per-five, a one-out single in the 12th, and that'll bring up Jerry Moses. Moses taking over for Johnny Stevenson, Stevenson taking out, in the eighth inning of play when a foul chip off the bat of Rick Mundey hit his meat hand, and then Moses taking over had his left wrist hurt. But he stayed in the ball game. Moses called away from the play to confer with Lefty Phillips. Alex Johnson at first base, and Alex has come back in a big way. Three-base hits, three-per-five. He represents the go ahead run of five-five times in the 12th inning of play. So in two games, the A's and the Angels will at least play 25 innings, and this ball game already about three hours and 17 or 18 minutes old went three hours and 35 minutes last night.

3:35:15The Angels hoping for a different outcome, however. Ball inspected by the play on fire, Bill Degen, and Degen gave his clean Kowsky a new baseball. Pregosi will come out, he will pinch it, or Jerry Moses, Jimmy who pinched it in last night's ball game in the 9th. Slide out to right field. So Jim, who would like to be playing more than any man in baseball, I'm sure, where that tremendous competitive desire that the Angel shortstop has, and all I can do is sit around and watch in from time to time, pinch it, and soar right toe, that aroma on his right toe, or between the toes of the big toe and the second toe, and Jim hoping to get some wood on the ball here to help the Angel cause. In batting practice, and Jim, of course, not hitting with the regulars with the extras, hits the towering drives into the seat. It doesn't appear to affect it,

3:36:15swinging the bat, he just can't run, and Pregosi, hoping to hit one somewhere, hit him where they ate as we will a killer used to do, I guess, and help the Angel. One man away, Johnson away from first, Epstein holding him on, the stretch by Clint Kowsky, here's the pitch to Pregosi, the slider is low. A ball and no strikes on Jim. The A's left fielder, Joe Rudy playing Pregosi deep. Center fielder, Rick Mundy straight away, and right fielder Reggie Jackson straight away and right. Throw the first space back just in time, as Johnson standing up, as if all gets away from first space with Mike Epstein. One ball and no strikes. Only Astros, sleep two from the San Diego Padres, eight to nothing in the second game as Larry Dirkler pitches a one-hitter, throw the first space Johnson back. No runs, one hit, two errors for San Diego, Houston eight runs, eleven hits and no errors. I don't know whether the attendance sets right 4,231 in San Diego,

3:37:15the stretch. Pregosi waits, there goes Johnson swung on a high drive, deep to left center field, way back to have a look is ready, and Pregosi will come on hold. Johnson will hit the pay station first, and Jim Pregosi, that limp most noticeable rounding second, touches the third base back, gets the shake from Rocky Bridges, and he comes in, and the angels lead seven to five, and Pregosi has to be the happiest man on the angel bench, as he goes back to the bench. Slim Kowski got it right up in the eyes to Jimmy, and the angels lead at seven to five, and for the angels, a long way back, and they have stretched ahead, seven to five. Here is Ken McMillan, the pitch to Clint Kowski, one hopper ride to Mike Epstein, at first base, and McMillan is the race. So Jim Pregosi, getting a high towering drive,

3:38:16over the wall, about 388 feet away, has given the angels the lead, seven to five. For Jimmy, his second home run of the year, RBI's number 12, and 13, two outs, here is Tony C, caniggly arrow has doubled in five trips, and the pitch to him is swinging amidst. And the pitch swinging in a mess. No balls and two strikes on Rudy. The A's definitely never out of a ballgame with a tremendous power that they present to the opposition, witnessed last night. 3:43:18with a two-out home run in the bottom of the ninth and then Reggie Jackson, who is on deck, winning it with a two-run bold-off Eddie Fisher in the 13th. And the two-strike pitch to Rudy's basketball fouled away. No balls and two strikes to count. Reggie Jackson is next. Mike Epstein will follow. So if LaRoche, to dispose of Mr. Rudy, manager Phillips would have things his way with Jackson and Epstein two left-handed batters against the left-hand of LaRoche, but of course both boys would acceptional power. And Epstein already having homework earlier in the ballgame off Tom Murphy. The old two-pitch basketball grounded to the right side. A two-offer? To sit the old Brian and to sit and he throws him out. One down. And the thing that Dave LaRoche wants to keep away from, of course, the bass-on balls, giving the A's opportunity to bring the tying run to the plate.
