On this day in working class history, the 15th of September. On the 15th of September 1978, the strike of 11,600 workers in Sudbury, Canada began. After the mining company Inco Limited, Promose Layoffs, and cuts to pay and benefits. Concessions, the strikers eventually won, were a 30-year-out policy, whereby workers with 30 years at the company could retire with a full pension, regardless of age, as well as most miners receiving a paid increase. Lasting nearly nine months, it was the longest strike in Canadian history at the time.
