15 Minute Masterclass: 3 Ways to be Yourself as a Public Speaker with Caroline Goyder, Speaker Coach and Author of Gravitas.
About this episode
Jo interviews Caroline Goyder, speaker coach and author of Gravitas, about three ways to be yourself as a public speaker. Caroline explains that many people fear speaking due to past experiences of judgment and offers practical tools to feel safer and more authentic.
First, shift focus from impressing to asking “How can I help?” by understanding what the audience needs and simplifying the message. Second, use the body to create calm and energy by moving, breathing, and getting present before speaking so the room feels less threatening. Third, use breath and pauses, voice is out-breath and pauses are in-breath, to slow rushing, reset the nervous system, and make speaking more conversational, supported by rehearsal, recording, or visualisation.
