400多年前，一支由五艘船组成的舰队从荷兰启航。它沿非洲南下，渡过凶险的南大西洋，又跨越麦哲伦海峡，开始了横渡太平洋的壮举。
敌国的要塞、狡诈的土著、猛烈的风暴还有饥馑与疾病，横亘在舰队前方的障碍似乎无穷无尽。
终于抵达他们的目的地，传说中的日出之国时，舰队只剩下了一条船，船上的百来人死的不到五分之一。
