派手な怪獣バトル以上に胸に刺さったのは、ソラトという存在そのものが揺さぶられていく重たい展開。「人間に干渉してはいけない」宇宙観測隊の理念と、今まで人を守ってきたソラトの行動。その矛盾が、もう一人のソラト＝“本当のオメガ”の出現によって、容赦なく突きつけられます。
福島県が物語の舞台になる珍しさ、カエン102を巡る人類の技術進化、怪獣2体＋メテオ怪獣3体の大盤振る舞い、そして戦闘を放棄して宇宙へ帰ってしまうオメガ。ラストのホラー感すらある演出と、年明けまで続きを待たされる総集編へのモヤモヤも含めて、印象に残りすぎる一話でした。暗くて重い。でも、だからこそ好き。そんな第23話を、あれこれ考えながら語っています。
