132. Fiddlers & Minnesota ((+ Red Rocks))

What's up everyone and welcome back to episode 132 of The Pod The Jane Likes. This is Matt and I'm here with Trisha, Jeanette, and Sean. And we are here to break down the last part of the DMB 2026 Summer Tour. We have quite a few shows to cover. And we also wanted to get into some detail about our trip to Colorado to see the band. And because in addition to seeing the band in Colorado, we also got to experience red rocks together for the first time.

I mean, so happy with all of the shows that just took place, but a little sad. It's all over.

2:06So excited to talk about it. That one, relive it all. So sad it's over already. It seemed like we just got started with the 2026 summer tour. We, I was speaking about Colorado earlier and these Colorado shows were the first shows since Jones Beach on the East Coast. The band typically takes a few weeks off in August to just take some time away before the run up to the Gorge. This is what we've seen regularly over the past several years. And Colorado was the first show, the first shows since, as I said, Jones Beach. Was this going to be a warm up for the gorge? Was it just going to be kind of a getting getting feet under them? I would say quite the opposite. Yeah. I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say. And I was going to kick it to Janette for a recap of the first night. But before we do that, guys, can we talk for a couple of minutes about Fiddler's Green?

3:08I just want to sort of set the scene for everybody because, you know, we're in Colorado. We had just been to Red Rocks again. Stay tuned for our Red Rocks conversation. And we're heading over to Fiddler's Green Ampitheater. And Colorado is one of the most beautiful places that I've ever been. It was just, you know, everywhere you looked was just, just incredible between the mountains. It just doesn't look like these coast. It looks like somewhere else and that's really cool. And so I am expecting that we are going to be treated to just the most scenic of places. I think for these shows, you would just think, again, maybe wishful thinking after Red Rocks. But we rounded a corner and I said, okay, where's the venue guys? And it was explained to me that we were already there. And to sort of again, set the scene for you, we are in the middle of a townhouse, condo, office building, kind of area outside Denver.

4:12And there is just this venue that's just smack dab in the middle there. As I, I referred to it as the conference room of venues because we had a view of a building that was for lease and the Delta dental building. These were things that you could see from the lawn or from some of the seats. And so this just wasn't the picture-esque Colorado experience that I had pictured. Trisha, what was your first take here when you walked into Fiddler's Green Empathy other? Honestly, I liked it. And here's why. Like to your point, Matt, it's like nothing I've ever seen before. It was like, you're in the middle of a city and they dug a hole and then put the venue inside the hole. Exactly what they know. Yeah. Like you were literally surrounded by condos. Like I don't so many condos and it's like, how are you even throwing a concert here?

5:14You would think people need to sleep. But I thought that there was like a big fountain structure with like steps to sit on and there were chairs everywhere and grassy little spaces. I don't know. It was, I guess when people said that they, because I've heard a lot of bad things about Fiddlers, I thought it was going to be like dumpy. But it wasn't dumpy. Was it? No. It was nice. Right. So that's, it was very nice. So maybe I just had very low expectations. I thought I was going to walk into like a Harvard or a Camden, Hartford or a Camden and then it was actually pretty clean and yes. Now I heard a lot of things that suck about the lawn. I was not in the lawn. Maybe you guys can touch on that. I don't know. But you know, I maybe my bar was set low. So I wasn't that shocked about it. I was actually pleasantly surprised. Right. And yeah, like I, I, I'm with you on the Holy was clean. It was nice. There it had, you know, nice aspects to it. It was just weird. Like I'm saying like this venue is so weird.

6:15And I will say the one complaint I have is the lines. The lines from Merch were out of control. I don't know what was taking so long for people to buy shirts. Well, we did, we did find out, right? Like what? Yeah, once we, once Matt and I finally did get to the front of line after waiting like maybe an hour in line. They were letting people try shirts on. They were letting you know who, you know, if you could wash it, it's a 100% cotton. Like they were like selling these shirts. And I was like, well, this is what's taking so long. You can't let everybody, every single person try on every size. So I mean, but again, West Coast people are just nicer. Yeah. I was ready to invite some people on for Matt's Merchman at like the Merch workers, you know, to talk about the material makeup. Any given item that was being sold that night. Yeah, exactly. But yeah, other than that, it was just weird. Like the corridor that surrounds the venue is very, is very slim. Like it's, it's tiny. It wasn't wide. Like you couldn't really like, you know, there was a lot of traffic.

7:23On top of the lawn, there were beer vendors and I had like these cute little bars that you could kind of like stand out with a ledge. And but if you were standing there, you're all all the way at the top of the lawn, right? So you think like, I'm going to be able to see everything. The top of the lawn is kind of flat. So once everybody stood up in the show started, you couldn't see anything. So they were just definitely these pockets of like not structurally or logistically planned well when the venue was built, I think. But yeah, it was very nice. It was just weird. Like, yeah. Matt and I were at the top of lawn at one point, like looking out at the view and like he said it was like, oh, there's the Delta dental building. Like it was you like, now, are there mountains behind Delta dental? Sure. All the way out there. There's beautiful mountain range. But like, yeah, it's not like I was just, and again, like, you know, you go to Red Rocks and it's like, you're looking, it's fake. It looks like a green screen. Like it doesn't look real.

8:23You're hearing you're like, oh, all right. His this is like, you know, more reality, I guess. Yeah, it's in a parking office building. Like that wasn't they don't even have parking. I knew it. It was just weird. That's like, no shade. Just weird. Just weird. It was just weird. Colorado is weird. So keep, you know, what are you going to do? Well, I think that there are so many legendary Colorado venues, right? We got to see Red Rocks, you know, full some field fish just played the weekend as this. You know, and I'm just expecting like, you know, something legendary and no, and yet here you are talking about it. So maybe this legend. Yeah, maybe it is. It would win our weirdest venue. The weirdest venue. The one of one venue award. Also the name to like, again, like Fiddler's Green, I'm picturing like, you know, like a monument park outside, you know, something like, you know, there's like a fiddler in the rocks or something.

9:25I know it's not about. It's not about. Oh, anyways. So as I was saying before we got into that Fiddler's Green Talk, was this going to be just a mailed in performance from DMB. I think quite the opposite. Jeanette, now I will kick it to you to talk about to talk about night one. Yeah, well, you know, just like you said, opposite of owning it in, I didn't feel like it was like a practice for the gorge. They gave us two nights of real setless here. I mean, they came in guns ablaze and they opened with song that Jane likes to PMP and to pig busted stuff, best of what's around. Like, I mean, we were like, oh, I can't, you know, like, this is every song after every song. We were just like, yes, this is awesome. What a way to come back after your break, right? You know, and then it's face man, come on, come on. You know, how we feel about Coco. Love it.

10:25Love it. Shake me, stay or leave. It could happen. Jimmy thing. Word up. And then, and then, Mom, Blackvale makes this return. And I was so happy to hear this again. It's been years. I think I heard it at the gorge a few years ago, but it's just such a classic cover that they do. And Dave does it so well. And, you know, he typically will do bring, you know, bring a guest on for it, but this was just the bit just the band and it was beautiful. I went, I went back and listened to it a few times and it was gorgeous. And then we get our first live in time, mom, which was completely unexpected. I kind of forgot time bomb existed. Like I was just like, oh, yeah, this is a song. And it, and I, right, right. No, you know, you just think it's not, it's not that I don't like it. It's just like, oh, yeah, that's that song exists on big whiskey. You know what I mean? And it's been so long that I just was like shocked by it. And it, and they, it brought, they killed it. It was good.

11:35So fast that it teleifies you. When will you hit the wall? Or are you going to learn to fight? No one will believe it except for all the people watching as you fly. And I mean, we were screaming it like it was, it was a fun, fun time. And the, and the crowd was definitely into it and surprised, you know. And then one of my favorites drive in drive out, they just kept the momentum going like it kind of slowed in the middle of the set. And then the momentum just got brought back. So we're driving drive at Louisiana by you. And then the, then you could finally see the, the full moon. It was a full moon that night. And you couldn't really see it until this part of the show where it finally had come up over the crowd over the, over the, the back of the venue.

12:36And Dave was staring at it and just looking at it and it was so beautiful. And it was like he was singing to it. And he did a butterfly tease. And I don't know how many people picked up on it. Matt and I picked up on it right away. So it was like a really cool moment to like actually hear that to know what he was doing. You know, some people he didn't do, you know, Dolly Parton had just passed a few days before. So everybody was kind of expecting a Dolly Parton tribute. And they did play Dolly as the house music before the van went on. But you know, someone mentioned to us after the show, one of our friends mentioned maybe that that was his, that was his moment to Dolly because he was looking at the moon and he played butterfly. And I thought that was really interesting and special thing. And I, and I'm going to go with that. I'm going to go with that. That was, yeah. Absolutely. And then he, they went into crash, drunk and soldier stay. And then I want to get into the encore a little bit here because baby blue.

13:40It was probably one of the most gorgeous baby blues I'd ever heard. And when I tell you that you could hear a pin drop in that crowd. I have pretty, pretty awesome. Yeah, I have never been in a crowd so silent in my life. Like again, I don't know if it's a West Coast thing because I feel like this happens last year at the Gorge a bit too, where everybody was just. Really paying attention and silent and being really respectful. But you could hear a pit. It was so and he got emotional and you could feel it and you know the crowd only cheered when he, he got emotional and he got through it and the crowd cheered at that point. But it went back to silence and let him finish. It was such a special moment. Yeah, I implore everybody to go listen to that. It's on the series XM replay. And it was just a special special baby blue. And then they closed it out with tripping billies, which we don't need that without a violin, but thanks. But yeah, solid show. I'm not what I was expecting.

14:40I did expect like you just a just your typical best of kind of the tour. Here we go. We're leading into the Gorge's. The Gorge is going to get all the lives, but we got a lib and I thought that that was that was fun. I am I've got a couple of things to add to to what to what to what it's saying before I do that, I think that we should address the elephant in the room here that the pod the Jane likes was split up for the show. And if you notice only Matt and I are speaking, that's right. The tonight night are talking about the show because we were there seeing Dave Matthews band. And Trisha and Sean, I think must have gotten lost on the way to the venue or something. They think their GPS led them a stray and maybe they ended up at a different show that night. But anyways. You know, found ourselves in one of the most gorgeous venues in the entire country. So we're sorry about that. We did not go to the conference center. Yeah, conference center conference center or venues or I don't know. I don't really tough tough decision there.

15:44They sent us to just do recon so that they could be fully prepared for night too. Yes, exactly. I mean, if you think that we weren't at Red Rocks watching this set and when we saw the opener song that Jane likes, it felt like a punch in the gut. Okay. No, I get I bet if you if you didn't think that I saw Long Black Vale and get real angry because I felt like I made a mistake. Yeah, we were we were joking that you were going through the seven stages of grief. I was I was like, she's angry now. She's angry. I was like, you know, I did this was a serious XM show. I did listen back. So I did get to listen to it. You know, it was a great show. And my oh, if I don't want to like start with critiques, but you said all of the good stuff. So I'll just say one critique and I want to start this campaign. It could happen is so good. It needs to not be a three minute song. They need to jam that out. They need to make it at least eight minutes, preferably 12. I mean, literally that can be a jam like that can be a song like Lion our Graves.

16:47Like it could have a piece at the end that is like someone's soul wing or something. I think we all agree on this, right? You had something to 100% or segue. So it could segue. Right. I think we've talked about this from the beginning. Yeah, it could set because we were there the night of debuted and the woodlands and it it segwayed into madman's eyes, I think, or or something like that. And I would love to see that more and just yeah extend it out. As I said, as you said, play it more. Yeah, play more for sure. It's such a good song. Do they know that it's such a good song and that we love it so much and we just want to hear it triple, you know, amount of times. Somebody's listening. It's almost like they tease us with it, right? Right. The outro that we have now on this little tiny piece of music, it's almost like we're getting just a little bit just like enough to wet your whistle and then it ends. Yeah.

17:47So yeah, I'm totally on board with anytime this pops up on the set list. One of us needs to make sure that it's said it's spoken it's put out in the universe that we want this to be taken around and test driven and whatever happens happens we're going to be excited about it. Absolutely. But yeah, so we weren't technically there, but I did listen, I do remember when it my text messages were going off time bomb liberation. I'm like, don't they play time before Tuesday, all the time, like, I forgot it was a song too. I was like, I was like, I'm real, so it's just an intro. Yeah, I was like, whoa, isn't that the song? I don't know. I forgot, but listening back, it sounded, it sounded really good. Yeah. It was, it was great. It was great. I wanted to point out that, you know, we've said before. We're planning out your DMB summer. It is great if you can space things out accordingly so that you hit a show at the beginning of the summer middle of the summer end of the summer.

18:50Like if you're going to do three shows, do one beginning, one middle one end, and you're bound to get different songs. And that was certainly the case for me this year with the shows that I attended. And in addition, something really special for me this night was, I think it was three personal liberation, meaning songs that I personally haven't heard in. Like 10 plus years, snow outside, time bomb, and oh, and long black veil. All three of those, like I hadn't heard in 10 plus years. Wow. So to hear those all together was, was really, really great. I also thought the end of the show was awesome because the, you could, the show could have ended with any of the last four songs I felt. Um, with Bayou, with Crash, with Drunken Soldier, which was an exceptionally good performance, I thought. And then it finally ended with Stay. And yeah, this show was, was, was awesome. And I really enjoyed it. I think it kept us on our toes, Jeanette.

19:50Are you going to enjoy Jimmy thing, guys? Well, what the heck? I know. What the heck? I was actually just looking at Jimmy thing word up and how collectively that's about 15 minutes of time. And it could happen was right before Jimmy thing and it's three minutes. I mean, we just got to share the love here a little bit more. Yeah. Okay, I'll stop the rant, but that's, that's just how I feel. It's a rant, but it's a compliment. You know what I mean? It's a compliment to how good this one is actually and where it goes. That's right. And I think I think one of their, one of their interesting tidbit about this show is that it's been, Trisha's take. And I think that we all agree here that tripping billies should never be played without a violin. And it was played after baby blue. And we should all forget that it was played because in addition to their not being a violin, Dave. All right. And messed up the lyrics and the whole thing almost went off the rails completely. They did recover. But I, you know, maybe Dave was playing and just thinking about Jake or Casey or Tatiana or Red Rocks and whatever.

20:53Or Red, which is right. Yeah. Thank you. Yeah. I, you know, I have to just, I have to make this not as good as it could be. But yeah, total agreement after after that tripping billies, which left something to be desired. I think anybody would have been fine if baby blue was the last song and, you know, Dave walked off stage because everybody, as Janette said, was just dead quiet. And it was, it was amazing. It was very special. Definitely a performance that I will remember for a long time. For sure. So after that, we came back to the conference center for day two. This time we had, we had Trisha and Sean in tow here. One thing that I will, that I'll say about this before, before I kick it to Trisha for her take and her recap here. We were with how many people guys like six, seven people we were with. And from the first note of the show to the last note of the show, not one of us went to the bathroom.

21:58Not one of us went to get a drink. Not one of us went to get food. We were thoroughly entertained and locked in happy and locked in. And that was, you know, the other thing that I'll definitely remember about these shows and, and this trip. I totally agree. It was such a good show, but I went back up because actually there was a meetup before the show. And, you know, this was the first time as a podcast to be at a show in the West together. And truly since DMB plays 95% of their shows on the East Coast in Midwest, our listeners in the West never met us. And wow, the kindness, the graciousness, the love was more than I could have ever imagined. It was very different. If you are one of these people we're talking about, you really poured into us. Your enthusiasm and your encouragement really in some ways fuels us to keep going. Truly, I mean, some of the nicest things that were ever said were said to us.

22:58And I will not forget it. And, you know, it's not like, I mean, it's not like this doesn't happen. It's just, it was just different. And you can tell that people in the West, like they don't get DMB the way the East Coasters, you know, get access. To the band or to, you know, people to meet us. And so it was just really special. So I just felt really like loved up. And, absolutely. Yeah, just really. And we had talked about this after like, wow, people are just so kind. But this is their time, right? Like this is their time when it comes to Fiddler is to actually get to see a show that's close to them. So walking into the venue, all loved up by our listeners. And that was really special. But yeah, let's talk about the music. I actually learned a lot in some ways. If I would have looked at this set just on paper, I'd be like, cool, this is a good set. But like it, my experience there was so different. Like Matt said, the energy, like none of us left.

23:59It was so much fun. The band, the band sounded excellent. There was a lot of engagement between like Dave and fans. And there were a lot of things that were, like, like when we just listened to some of them throughout the show. So kicks off with the watch tower opener. So obviously the energy is super high. That's always special. Like opening with watch tower. What? Like they opened with it tonight, too last night. I mean, last year of Gorge, which is like one of the most special shows ever. So you get that aspect of it right? And then you're like, I mean, it's usually typically a closer. So opening with watch towers, you're like, OK, we're in for goodnight. Right. high American baby big-eyed fish bartender alligator pie. I mean that run is so unique and fun. Lots of energy. And his guitars fixed right because we got it on the resonator. Yeah, we got it on the resonator. Where are you going Mad Men's Eyes? Crush was a huge sing along. And we get a little break from singing with come tomorrow that came next.

25:00Sweet up and down. We could see we couldn't even go to the bathroom because that's long enough. Right. You couldn't climb out of the conference room to find the bathroom in a amount of time for come tomorrow. Sweet up and down. Super fun. And then you know, kill the preacher why I am. This why I am was so different. I can't explain it. It's why I am. Why I am still here dancing with the blue rock skin. Oh, I don't know how that ends up before. Oh. I don't know. Dave was just like looking up singing at the fans. The fans were singing back. And we were all it just felt like this collective intentional connection to LaRoy.

26:01And then the graphics are different. Like they are different with LaRoy's old photos of LaRoy in those graphics. There was something really powerful that really made me say like, wow, you really don't know when you look at a paper set list. What's happening in that room? Because why I am on a set all the time and I'm not like, oh, they played why I am. It's like, right. I feel like that was the performance of the night. So just really special moment. It was. And then say goodbye. And then I have a question for the pod. And it's a simple yes or no. I don't need an explanation. It's a yes or it's a no. I did it was super fun. Yes or no? Yes. Yes. Say it Matt. No, no, it wasn't an option. It was fine. It was fine. Yeah. Fine. Fine. Fine. Yeah. That's it. He said fun. He said fun. Yeah. He said fun. It was so fun. And I just feel like everybody did have. I don't know the eight people with. There was like interpretive dancing and singing and like, I don't know. It felt like such a lot of love bombs.

27:06I don't really care. For such a lovely time, I do the smile. You're better lock me up. I do it again. I did it. You think I'm going to fall? I did it. I'm guilty as a choice. I did it. Well, I think 2026 I did it is where it's at. So. And then after that, we're having all this fun and we get a liberation. Another liberation. Yes. And it's Matt's favorite. So I'll kick it to Matt. Well, you know, this song is for for whatever reason. And this is just my year of my personal preference. A. He and cornbread to me are like bottom two songs in the. Wow. I don't know how, why that is the case, but.

28:07That's really. That's like really. Whoa. I'm. I'm just explaining my preff. Everybody. Don't yuck somebody's yum. You know, I think you're yuckying our yum literally. I'm. I'm just. I'm explaining to you. What? What my feelings are on the matter and so these two songs for whatever reason just rub me the wrong way they always have And so as soon as I heard Dave say Does anybody want to come on in I was I was And I was you know this was the one time that I think that I could have Left and come back, but I stuck it out. I stuck it out and I'm not gonna say it's fun. I'm not gonna say it's one. You were still recovering from I did it I got it. I should not have kicked it to Matt. I'm sorry. I'll kick it to Sean. Sean. What did you think of me? I I actually I'm gonna go back to Matt. I want to pivot

29:11You are sitting in the room and you The conference are The backstage portion of the conference room and you get a choice to include Come tomorrow or he on the set list. You can only keep one come tomorrow Get out of here Listen to come tomorrow There's just something about the song that I dislike you know what I think it is I think that the video scared you when it came out and the video is scary video scary video scary I think that's what happened I don't that's not really I don't know it's just interesting it felt like it was always You know, I'm gonna play this song and it's gonna kind of be like a little thing that's gonna evolve into something else And it just never evolved which is like the complete opposite of what the song talks about it just never it never evolved

30:13Anyways, we don't know if you don't do well on the fact that I don't like Aiki you guys can talk about it and Say how how much fun it was and we're just gonna mute you I mean Jeanette went really hard I Love it I love it. I sang everywhere to the top of my lungs. Yeah, I don't care It's yeah, I love that song and then Contrary people don't know this but then Jeanette went to the tattoo parlor and Getting the yeah, you know the gibberish But I did go hard. Yeah, you did go hard Sean. What is your opinion of it? I think that it is I is it is it near the top of the catalog for me It's not near the top of the catalog for me, but there's plenty that I like here. I think that there's a very real groove to the song and I think that that some of the writing I'm looking squarely at the Strange evolution how people have come to believe that where it's greatest achievement

31:20I'm a great achievement when they're with just a collection of cells over reading I know God I'm a boy in a true That part Super fantastic writing really really strong writing Does one little part of the whole song make up for the rest of it? You know, that's a different story But I think it it kind of just falls into this like neutral territory for me and Because of the fact that it is so rare and It's it's so infrequently that we see it pop up. I find myself having a fun time Listening back to it if I'm not at the show or kind of just dancing along to it and singing to it if I am at the show But that's that that little segment kind of right in the middle is easily my favorite part of the song and Even well beyond the song. I just think that that part is fantastic writing

32:21That was a I'm just telling you our listeners are going nuts right now. They're either agreeing with Matt Not agreeing, but it's funny Yeah, I am one of the the feedback we always get from listeners is I'm always talking to you guys I'm always like yelling at you guys and I'm sure like responding They're responding and I'm sure they're just Having a lot of reactions right now, which is funny Then we get in every day And then this awesome awesome End to the show Before the encore granny 41 stone. Yeah, really great really really really really great way to cap off this this show Could you ask for more at that point? I don't think so. That's a fair question Can you ask for more well? No, I mean, I thought the stone the graphics were cool on the stone Too that was very cool to pay attention to it was like fire and then lightness and brightness and then fire again and then bright colors And I thought that was a blissy stone. It was a blissy stone

33:23Well, and we could we could give the we could give the the 41 update. I think We have certain songs that we can just give a status update anytime they pop up So we give a status update if it could happen We still don't have in it. It could happen jam. We're all waiting for it. We're super excited for it to happen. Please happen soon 41 we could also give a status update The status update for the Denver 41 is still no saxophone Still no saxophone no violin of course because we didn't have one on this given night, but also no saxophone Also, please We would love to have that return sometime soon very soon immediately This comes after you know, we talked about going to see Jeff coffin play When I met Jeff after the show in New Hampshire. I did actually bring that up That was the one thing that I wanted to make sure that I brought up and I did bring it up and I said Jeff

34:27I miss Arjuna so much on number 41 Is there a chance that it ever comes back and he said never say never but he You know, that was that was okay enough for me You know, this was the first 41 after that conversation. So I was you know really I was was was panel panel a lot of attention, but it didn't happen Nothing I expected it to but We were hoping if anybody's if anybody is listening we would all love it to return We only have small requests. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, it's not just these are these are little yeah, these are little Um, and then we get a tour debut in our encore in our e1 with here on out and I felt like that was gorgeous and like we said From night one with baby blue you could hear a pin drop during it and I thought that he hit those notes Beautifully, so that was just a real beautiful song and then oh he brings out that black guitar And what do we get and what do we get and then you see those green lights

35:29Start and you're like hell yeah, we're getting to what you are Um to close the show which is just I made start in the show with watchtower ending it with what you are Incredible it was that was a huge highlight of the night for sure Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. I even with that opener and closer. I'm still like, but why I am was so good. Yeah Yeah, you ain't wrong No, not wrong. I was I was happy to have seen this show. It was um Upload it to nugs if you have not had a chance to listen to it. I would recommend going back Mm-hmm And one other thing I wanted to add about uh this combination of shows is for whatever reason and I don't know if it was the long black veil uh appearance, but Something screamed listener supported to me for some reason uh And like I don't know if it was the granny 41 stone plus long black veil, but it just I don't know something about it just felt so listener supported to me and

36:35That was uh that was cool. I want to you know I went over and looked and you know there's there's so many songs out of the 20 songs that were played List for listener supported. It's a good chunk of them were played during this run and um, you know some of those are Stuff that's around all the time, but stuff like long black veil is not so uh it was it was cool and fun I thought Uh before we Continue on here. Didn't want to take a second for Matt's merch minute to talk Colorado and uh I also wanted to Give a shout out to the listener who came up to me at red rocks not even at DMB When I was waiting for a grilled cheese sandwich and said hey You're mad from matt's merch corner And that made me smile I think more than anything on the trip. So uh Thank you to uh to that listener and to everybody else who has given good feedback on matt's merch minute will go really quick um

37:35There were were uh three posters for fiddlers There was a uh a weekend poster. I thought that all of these were I would say like b B-plus posters. There was nothing that I what that I went home with But I think that if you had gone and and picked one of these up to hang up in your home you would have been happy Uh, I did grab a koozie and a shirt from from the venue which were really cool And they had a blanket they had a pin they had a koozie sticker a shirt a sticker. Yes, that's right a sticker Which they have done for all of the multi-night runs and also happy to report Janette I think you're actually wearing it right now. They did have the online ceramic stuff back in all sizes When we hit the merch booth, which was cool to see because uh as of the end of the first leg of the tour They had sold out of pretty much every size except for I think small so uh if you were looking to get one of those online Ceramic shirts or hoodies they are available uh and uh I guess

38:37Maybe I don't know what the deal was if it was just for this and the gorge and and uh And minnesota but um they were available. So uh maybe they'll pop up on the official store after the tour and Oh, all right, so that is the uh that's actually a minute Wow, yeah, really good. How about that? I'm even gonna hear us that So then after uh after we leave Colorado and again stick around for our red rocks talk after this But we did have one other show to uh to cover which the uh was a makeup show for the band previous uh failed attempt to play in shakapi minnesota Because of the uh the rain issues with the new venue so um I'm gonna Send it over to shan to talk about that show So dmb finally did make their way back for their debut performance at the mystic lake amphitheater the show was

39:39Actually the makeup date for the june 23rd post-pomant and Right from the beginning this show felt like It had an elevated level of energy here. I think um Kind of right out of the shoot so much bridge fake into ants When the world ends is is kind of how the show got started, but I I thought that the first Really stand out performance here Was this early in the show performance of full to think which was only the fourth performance of the year And it also ended up being the fourth and final performance of the entire tour So if you happen to catch a full to think this year Good on you the the crowd here in minnesota did just that uh But the the energy level just really felt turned up Across the board Carter day fawns everybody sounded really on you could you could hear it

40:40coming through the recording speaking of energy a little bit later We saw ourselves with a You might die trying it went full to think grace is gone You might die trying this one always packs a punch uh this one more specifically felt like it packed And even heavier punch than normal Uh, and then if we fast forward just a little bit more One of the biggest highlights of the show Without question has to be Long black veil so we we were talking about it a little bit earlier that it reappeared In denver and here we have it during the makeup date in minnesota This one though was a little bit different because dmb was joined on stage by cera feral And i thought this sounded fantastic uh she specifically sounded fantastic

41:44She visits smart way when the night winds wind No No Nobody sees Nobody knows And especially in those moments when she takes the the lead vocally she really commands this song um Yeah, really really good and and From there we lead right into another powerful moment of this minnesota song The first ever dmb performance of don't let me down and wow Cera blew me away here she she did um Dave isn't really involved in this at least vocally Which was interesting He's not involved in this Yeah, I mean he contributes to some background vocals, but he does he does for the most part this one was completely cera and

42:49Honestly, it works so well Let me down Oh Don't let me down No, don't let me down And she has this ability to make things her own, but wow does she have that on full display here It doesn't feel at all like she's just walking out on stage to sing along a beatle song with dmb She totally puts her stamp on this it's a super powerful performance You should totally check it out if you have not heard this one

43:50It's available on nugs. She commands Not just the song, but the whole entire room like You like it she just I don't know there's something about her stage presence that really you just you I don't know I heard her voice is so haunting and Beautiful and you just you know, she just kind of changes it. She does really make it her own Yeah, Dave was probably like now. I don't need to hop in here at all Clearly infatuated with her Very clearly extremely clear He was like oh my god. Oh my god. Please keep singing Right now exactly exactly Well the the the music nerd in me here. I saw this pop up on the set list and I was beside myself anytime

44:54We know the effect that the Beatles have had on on Dave and We have been lucky enough to have I don't know. What is it five ten performances of Beatles songs over the years from From Dave Dave and Tim dmb and so anytime one pops up like this I'm always so excited to see it and you know cera as as we said really knocked it out of the park But I really wanted to hear Dave sing this uh at least you know trading versus or something like that because We know how much this music means to him and Uh, so that was uh, you know, that was that was the one thing that I'll say about this performance of him the fact that it was awesome I just would have liked to have heard Dave a little bit more even just one verse you know right right From there uh as the show kind of winds down we get the second performance of ee he I thought this one was also really emotionally

45:56Overflowing I it that this one this version feels like it kind of got shot right out of a camera And and and it felt a little bit more polished up to me than the Denver version um Dancing Nancy's PNP Interrepanselled to close out the show And then for the encore uh here at the mystic lake remake show We have paper town which we have gotten a few times this year When the summer tours all said and done seven total performances this one was six of seven But syra feral comes back out on stage uh and and delivers Another really good Performance but this one is extra special because if you did not know The song which was recorded for a 2026 documentary titled paper town in which Dave was asked to contribute

46:57Music to and ultimately he ended up writing this song well He ended up writing this song and he ended up writing One of the verses for syra feral so this was Not the first time that we've heard paper town. We've heard it a few times this summer I think it's been very well received throughout the fan base But this was the first time that we heard it In the way that Dave intended it to be heard when he originally wrote it So I thought that That was kind of a special way to kick off The encore I think once we knew that syra was in the building paper town was The thing that made the most sense just because she's On the studio recording and then they wrapped it up with gray street kind of a You can't go wrong with gray street in in the e2 slot. So This this show was kind of a long time coming because of the issues that they had at this new venue But I thought that this show was fun. I thought that it was super high energy And I thought most of all

47:59Good on dmb for finding a way to squeeze this into the tour Never any mention at least publicly of Actually canceling the show was just an immediate postponement So good on them for that and good on the people of Minnesota who ended up getting a pretty fun show Yeah, and he definitely shouted out the people of Minnesota too and mentions just what they have been through as a state with ice and the murders that took place and really just mentioned how inspiring they were as a state with how they handled All of that you know trauma and harborsness that happened and it was I think people felt good that you know He acknowledged that and I think in a soda has been on His heart and all of our hearts really For a long time. So I was really really happy that they didn't cancel that and and squeezed it in right before the court certainly One thing I'm interested to hear guys and I want to ask you this after we recap the gorge

49:00But I would love to hear what everyone's favorite paper town performance was About the summer because there are so many interesting ones we have Jake we have Brandy we have Uh Sierra like there's just so many different options to choose from and uh, you know One thing is for sure that I think that this is definitely one of the most well received songs New songs from Dave and from the band in a very long time You know, I think I don't think there's anybody who has said oh I can't stand paper town I just think it's uh it's uh it's uh it's a song that it tells a story it Definitely is emotional and I think it definitely has a long shelf life As as an e1 song and maybe even amidst that song in the future You know depending on If it grows at all into you know full band, but um Yeah props to paper town. I've really enjoyed listening to all the different versions and again be prepared next time

50:04With your favorite paper town because I'm really curious to hear So that is it for dmb shows before Before they head to the gorge and as I said we'll have a gorge recap coming But we do want to spend a couple of minutes here talking about our experience Uh going to red rocks uh We booked this trip to Colorado Sort of for this one two punch of dmb at fiddlers and uh Goose at red rocks and none of us had been to red rocks before We have heard we've seen We have taken in the lore of red rocks when you talk about dmb at red rocks Of course you have the original 1995 release live at red rocks which is such a favorite for a lot of people some amazing versions of songs on there recently line our graves um Just some amazing stuff there

51:05Then you fast forward to 2005 and you have the weekend on the rocks release which also turn into a box set if you like box sets You can check that out Um where the uh where the entire thing was uh was was put out the entire um Uh run i think it was four shows Uh there's also a legendary poster from that show which uh which is uh a grail for a lot of collectors um And it was it was a very different sound from the band in 2005 than it was from You had butch there you had songs like time of the season get played um You know, you've got a lot of stand-up stuff in there, but uh it it definitely packs a punch in of itself uh as recently as last week i watched to to desky truck spand um Play at red rocks on nugs and i was like all right This is my warm-up for red rocks. I'm gonna i'm gonna sit here and watch this I'm gonna be you know it looks beautiful Looks all of the things and all of that And when i tell you that this place cannot be done justice by a camera

52:10Or whether it be a still camera or a video camera. I mean this is just One of the most beautiful places that i've ever been when we went to the sphere for the first time I sort of said the same thing about like not being able to describe it until you actually physically walk in and see it And that is how i felt about this There was just there was nothing that could prepare you you know You also hear that it's a smaller venue like in the sense that it can only hold x amount of people And you walk up you you walk up and into the venue and you're like Oh my god, this is humongous yeah, even though it's also at the same time very intimate And the views the sight lines the history. I mean everything was just was just incredible I kept i kept closing my eyes and thinking about the Bands who had come before and played red rocks like the grateful dead like the mb uh And it was just you know closing my eyes and thinking about that while i was there was just was just pretty incredible because it felt like

53:15uh A totally it was definitely a totally new experience for me and for all of you guys and i definitely want to hear what your biggest takeaways were But it was just one of those kind of like overwhelming moments Um And not to mention the first night we were there there was a lunar eclipse So that's like a whole another thing right magical It was pretty incredible what are the chances You know, yeah, so magical and so special because As you were saying math there's so much history with the gave math use band at red rocks that You know The the band in question is goose and they were there and the amount of dmb people there that really treated as their night zero I mean everybody was there so many i mean tons of people and i think I think it's really special that another band was able to Bring us all together in in that space so we can enjoy an iconic venue that none of us got out there Right like for another band that's really it's actually really

54:15A big deal to go out there to see that venue and like matt said i mean it's so stunning and so overwhelming that like I don't know like you you would turn a corner and see a massive rock or like am i in a video game? Is this real that looks so fake like it was just magnificent You couldn't breathe you're very high up. I mean You really do have to take your time. I a group of eight were like walking up the stairs Taking it real slow huff and and puffing Yeah, like we bought an oxygen We did We did to like give us some oxygen, but really A magnificent venue and so cool to see so many dmb people of course there's a crossover with dmb and goose but um Yeah Everybody was there and it was so fun. Yeah, even people that there's not a crossover for we're like Oh, this is a great opportunity to check this new band out, you know So there were so many There were so many dmb fans there and um it was really cool. It was really cool to see everybody at a different a different bands show, you know

55:21And there of all places red rocks. I mean iconic I've been waiting my whole life to go there right You know, I almost went in 2005 when they played. I had a ticket and um you know they they they were three shows originally planned and then they added a fourth for A hurricane casrino benefit and I was able to get a ticket to that and I was like Should I go should I not go and I hemmed in hot and at the last minute I decided not to and I regret I've regretted it for the last 20 years So I've just been waiting for a band that I actually Really like to go and so the love perfect. Yeah, this but no well I would I'm saying I was waiting for a band that I actually like not and then a band I loved actually right going So I was like well, this is it and then and then my other favorite band is Down the road so in the same city that weekend like this is perfect. It's finally happening, you know um Yeah, it's never been able it's never been able to it's never lined up with a band that I like so right

56:24This was just really special. Yeah, it felt sacred in a lot of ways sacred grounds that we were on and absolutely um Goose played two nights. Obviously Sean and I went the second night because the venue it was you know It was a decision not between goose and dmb but between a bucket list venue and not and yeah You know we chose the bucket list venue and loved it so much that goose out of the third day and we stayed to go We actually extended our trip to to go to the third night I am walking away from red rocks thinking it is the best venue in the country When you are lower, I mean you can have some sound issues at the top because of the wind But when you're lower the sound is unmatched reverberating off the rocks. It's gorgeous. Yes It's actually more strenuous. I think than the gorge and alpine. I'll be honest by this is the altitude No, well, there's a lot of stairs right like yeah, yeah, you're going up and down to the bathroom or concessions like you're going These are big stairs You know, I had a little trauma around stairs after I'm like, I don't even want to go upstairs

57:24But I think it's the an iconic venue a beautiful venue Sean, what did you think? There's there's no place like it. I walked away thinking that there There's really nothing else like red rocks you're when you're there you're sitting between these massive Formations watching the sun disappear behind the rocky mountains And right, you know at some point the stage lights start to take over It's it's this it's like a sensory overload. There's unbelievable natural acoustics to the venue um The scenery is Unbelievable um not really comparable to anything else. I think the energy is Uh heightened potentially because of the venue itself everything about it feels bigger feels immersive. It's it's one of those places that The venue itself becomes part of the concert

58:26Every performance feels You know just a little bit more special because of where it's taking place and I think the the parallel that I heard an awful lot of people drawing when we were there Especially because of the band that that we follow in in DMB Is the gorge because that's that's the big trip that people make in DMB's been doing it forever uh They're Similar but also extremely different. Yeah, I don't think you can compare them. I really know. Yeah, they they really are different and there's something about uh and and This isn't to take away from either one of the venues one of the comparisons I made though was That when you're at the gorge once the sun sets Then you're in a Incredible venue, but you're in what feels like this massive venue that can feel like a lot of the other venues that exist now when the sun is out and you're looking over that gorge

59:27It's breathtaking and actually hard to believe it's real On the flip side of that coin though the red rock side of that coin When the sun sets it's almost like the venue takes on another life of its own And the way that those rocks light up The way that the sound bounces off of them it is It is a surreal experience so much so that I would almost recommend if you can do this if you have not been to red rocks you almost want to find A way to do more than one night there because I found it to be almost that overwhelming the first time There's so much to take in It's it's it's unbelievable. It's a it's a truly Incredible absolute elite venue in the entire country and beyond Yeah, and I mean even from the drive in all the way to the drive out like it is You know you you um drive through like a red rock on your way like a tunnel over and rock on your way up the

1:00:28Up to the venue and there's a museum and there's a gift shop You can find all kinds of of red rocks merch. So, you know, we were all we were all up in there looking at merch But yeah, like it just the whole experience and there's and there's everywhere you turn Pitcher-esque and you're like take a picture of me here take a picture of me here right like it was just I couldn't I just couldn't stop Taking pictures of things like it was just gorg. I just couldn't believe I the whole time I was there couldn't believe I was there and then There's a lunar eclipse and that's just like wait what like is this real is this real life is this really happening right now? Yeah, it was definitely met I mean and since you put me on the spot with telling the world we didn't go to night two what happened night two As soon as you walked in to Fiddler's for the first time you were like, oh Can you come pick me up? Right Such an extreme I mean guys, this is weird can you come get us? It's almost you you almost have to experience the extreme to understand how extreme the two differences are right

1:01:34You're like there's a super car in this venue. Yeah, there's a car in the pit. What? Even well even Jeanette talking about the drive to Red Rocks made me think of the drive to Fiddler's It's it's it's so It's so interesting. It's like you're driving through an office district. It's right Where's there's like a ton of strip malls then you're driving through an office Yeah, and then you're like driving to somebody's like we're condos where people know that we're parking in Business we're parking in a office building sparking line. It was so it's just so weird when you're yeah we were tailgating at Red Rocks and The tailgate was beautiful. Yeah, right. Yeah, you know, right We there was like a red there was a quick passing sort of was like a rainbow over the rocks. Oh my god Right magical like it was magical. Yeah, it was just it wasn't real life. It wasn't real life One other thing I wanted to say about about Red Rocks was the I was initially very

1:02:35uh anxious about the Way that the tickets are sold there because For this show at least the first I don't know how how many rows it is, but the first So many rows are GA and then the middle rows and so it's 70 rows of seating and The first so many rows are GA and then there's a bunch of rows that are seating and then the last 20 rows are GA again And so I'm picturing this like okay, we're gonna go in there and we have GA tickets and we can just go wherever we want And there's no like wristbands and there's no this and there's no that And even when we got there, I was like oh, okay, like we just kind of find our spot. I'm like Everybody was just I think so you know of being there that it was very easy, you know, it was uh, you know Everyone was like oh, do you need some more spaces? We can slide down a little bit and people were so accommodating They were like oh, yeah, we have room here. We'll move down or yeah, or we'll move this so like I just never experienced anything like it like we were all in the

1:03:41That was that's called top GA bottom j as a yeah I don't know this I've ever seen that amount of space though at Right, the rows are so wide that you have More than ample room once you have your spot secured plenty of room for people passing and going to the restrooms or going to the concession stands plenty of room to be dancing around talking to friends whatever it may be That part caught me off guard Because of how steep it is and it it is quite steep But each row you have an awful lot of room in each row. Yeah, it's it's it's really well laid out Yeah, and I don't know if you're like a short person if it's an issue because of how it's set up right like it's so steep Being as a short person. Yeah, I can tell you like I didn't have any there was no issues nobody's I mean, you know, it was great. Yeah, but even if they did you were high enough. Yeah, there was enough space

1:04:42Yeah, it was it was set up nice Well, so Sean and I did do the lower GA it is a little bit of a different world down there Uh, we're gonna line up and get a spot and yeah We have a fun story quickly from from night two just because this this felt very Colorado and and not something that I've ever experienced than any other venue So when the gates opened for night two there's there's several different entrances both sides of the venue Uh, once the gates open then it's just kind of a flood of people all those gates are open people Going to get the best spots that they can because there's so much GA seating The specific gate that we were standing at the the time for the gates to open had passed and the gate didn't open People didn't really understand why and then we were later informed that the delayed opening that specific gate Because rattlesnakes were passing by Yeah, oh my god

1:05:43Yeah, yeah, yeah, not funny pretty wild Good. They delayed it from opening. I would yeah like oh my god Wow, yeah Well, I think bottom line red rocks is a must do if you're a concert fan I'd heard that from people before and I would echo the sentiment If you are in the Denver area and there is a show at red rocks even if you're just mildly intrigued by the band Go check it out because it is it is a thousand percent Worth it and I already want to go back to see another show And I can't imagine I can't imagine if we ever got DMB there again. I don't think it's ever gonna happen but what a I mean it would I would postpone the rest of my concert activity for the year to prioritize that because So a great and amazing. I mean it would be just

1:06:44Awesome, and I wouldn't I wouldn't care if I was Front row or 70th row like yeah, it would be spectacular And I would say Again go check it out because it is it is great One thing just to bring this conversation full circle I don't know if you guys saw this I was doing some red rocks research after I got home and You know the the the venue has been operational since I think the 40s and one interesting tidbit that That I took away was the Beatles actually played red rocks in 1964 and the show did not sell out Wow Yeah, I'm like ticket. I think it's had tickets were six bucks and it didn't sell out. So wow I wonder why is it just like location because people like I think probably I mean people weren't you know people weren't traveling Yeah flying and so the the people who love the Beatles in Went to see it and then we're still some seats available It's just I mean you think about how special this venue is and how special a band like the Beatles were like that's crazy

1:07:50You know because you had to get there by horse and people weren't interested Yes in 1964 you would take your horse I heard that correct Beatles fan club Pinn that you would attach to your horse Actually was just sick and about where it was located and like there's a it's very western You just know how do you think how do they amplify the sound back then without electricity That's right a couple people on bicycles and And the big question is how you know what what do you think from from all the people who went to see that show Uh what do you think the most prominent horse name was do you think it was John Paul George Good question. I'd have to go with Good horse name Anyways if you like horse jokes
