Vasile Stanescu is an associate professor of Communication at Mercer University. He has been vegan for over 20 years and has been publishing work on effective animal liberation for over a decade. He holds a PhD in Modern Thought and Literature, with a focus on environmental rhetoric, from Stanford University. Dr. Stanescu is the co-founder and former co-senior editor of the Critical Animal Studies Book Series published by Brill/Rodopi Press, co-founder of the North American Association for Critical Animal Studies (NAACAS), fellow of the European Association for Critical Animal Studies (EACAS) and former co-organizer for the the Stanford Environmental Humanities Project. Stanescu's areas of expertise are in animal studies, food studies, media studies, and environmental communication. Dr. Stanescu has conducted research on locavorism, humane meat, lab-grown meat, the effectiveness of plant-based meat substitutes, and the ethics of the removal of invasive species
