112. How to Bust the Winter Blues

About this episode

Hey friend! We have a very special episode for you today. Not only is this episode about how to handle the winter blues, but it is the first time we have ever recorded an episode LIVE!

This episode was recorded live with more than 50 teacher friends watching. It was such a fun process recording this episode and I'm sure we'll do another episode like this.

With the holidays in full swing and winter approaching fast, this episode is all about how to handle and bust the winter blues. We wanted to share tips on how to respond to that low feeling we all can experience when winter comes.

We dive into ways we can best handle the winter blues. One of those ways is to acknowledge our circumstances and recognize what we have control over and what we don't have control over.

There are some things we simply DO NOT have control over during the winter season:

  • The Weather
  • Amount of Daylight Hours
  • Lower Serotonin from Daylight Hours

While there are things we do not have control of during winter, there are things that we do have control over. We discuss these tips on today's episode and how to best take control during winter. Some of those ways are:

  • Whether or not we complete a stress cycle if we are in one
  • What we do with our emotions
  • How we think about situations, how we treat ourselves, whether we accommodate the season rather than trying to BUST or PUSH THROUGH- allowing it to be a little SOFTER if it needs to be
  • Parts of our environment we can control
  • Light Therapy for example can really help with winter blues. Exposure to bright light, particularly in the morning, can help regulate the body's internal clock and improve mood.
  • OR what can we do to make this season more EXCITING? Maybe instead of sitting around playing iPads on the weekend and thinking it’s too cold, there’s nothing we can do, bundle up and go sledding!

I share my insight on how to bust the winter blues as well as hear from members of the Wife Teacher Mommy community watching the episode live. There is so much insight and advice in this one episode! You do not want to miss this special, one of a kind episode!
