0034 - Practicing Design Thinking with Eileen Diskin
About this episode
Hosts: Juliet Gusinde-Duffy and Lilly Cordover
We are talking today with Eileen Diskin, Entrepreneurial Specialist with the UCD Innovation Academy, environmental scientist, and professional facilitator.
You are very welcome to the podcast Eileen. Can you tell us a little about yourself to begin?
UCD’s Innovation Academy showcases cutting edge hacker-creator tools such as VR, 3D printing, LEGO, while at the same time values paper and cardboard too. Can you talk about the need for physical prototyping for idea development?
What do you think is motivating the “Design” movement? Is it a fad or a real shift in mind-set and commercial imperative?
Can anyone develop a design attitude? How can a newbie start out?
Can you talk about the role of the facilitator? What are the benefits of having someone facilitate a group design sprint?
I think that facilitation is a bit of an art. What do you look for in our own facilitation practice, how do you stay fresh and keep on-track?
For people listening in, who have an idea for a new product/service/etc… what would you suggest they do to make it happen?
How do you prepare people to think differently for creative problem solving, for solution finding?
How do we identify and decide on the challenges that drive a design sprint? Do you have any tips for helping to find those big problems?
Well, we’ll wrap up there.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences today.
