Tolkien, J.R.R.

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was a British author, philologist, and university professor best known for his fantasy stories, particularly The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. He was a scholar of languages and mythology, and his love of languages and mythology influenced his writing. Tolkien was a professor at Oxford University and was known for his love of nature and his interest in mythology and folklore. He was awarded the CBE in 1972 for his services to literature.
