Shipbuilder and maritime expert
Thomas Andrews was a shipbuilder and maritime expert who served as the builder and designer of the RMS Titanic. He was born in 1873 in Glasgow, Scotland, and began his career at Harland and Wolff, the shipyard where the Titanic was built. Andrews was responsible for designing the Titanic's grand staircase, and he was also in charge of the ship's safety protocols. He went down with the ship on its maiden voyage and died in the disaster. Andrews is remembered as one of the most important figures in the Titanic's history.
