Sonia Sotomayor is an American lawyer and jurist who has been serving as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States since 2009. She was nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate on August 6, 2009. Sotomayor was born in the Bronx, New York, and graduated from Princeton University and Yale Law School. She served as a judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York from 1998 to 2009. She is known for her advocacy on issues such as affirmative action and immigration reform.
