Ruth Wakefield

Ruth Wakefield was an American dietician and entrepreneur who is best known for inventing the chocolate chip cookie. Born in 1903, Wakefield studied home economics and later worked as a dietician. In 1930, she and her husband opened the Toll House Inn, a popular restaurant in Whitman, Massachusetts. The inn became famous for its cookies, which Wakefield claimed to have invented by accident. The Toll House Inn was later renamed the Toll House Lodge, and the cookie became a beloved treat across the United States.
