Compiler of the first English dictionary
Robert Cawdrey was an English clergyman and lexicographer who compiled the first English dictionary, A Table Alphabeticall of Hard Usual English Wordes, in 1604. Cawdrey was born in 1578 and died in 1643. He was a prominent figure in the Church of England and was known for his advocacy of plain language. Cawdrey's dictionary was a groundbreaking work that helped to standardize the English language.
