Rita Levi Montalcini

Rita Levi Montalcini was an Italian neuroscientist and Nobel laureate. Born in Turin, Italy in 1909, she studied medicine and neuroscience at the University of Turin. She worked at the National Research Council of Italy and the University of Rome, where she made significant contributions to the field of neuroscience. In 1986, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her work on the role of nerve growth factor in the development of the nervous system. She is considered one of the most important female scientists of the 20th century.
