Clarence LaVaughn Staples, known professionally as Pops Staples, was an American gospel and soul singer. Born on May 27, 1915, in Prairie View, Arkansas, he co-founded The Staple Singers with his wife Mavis and their four children. A master of traditional gospel music, Pops Staples' legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians.
