Pope John XXIII

John XXIII was the Pope of the Catholic Church from 1958 to 1963. He was born Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli in Sotto il Monte, Italy, and was ordained as a priest in 1925. Roncalli served as a diplomat for the Vatican and was appointed as the Patriarch of Venice in 1953. He was elected Pope in 1958 and served until his death in 1963. During his papacy, John XXIII convened the Second Vatican Council, which led to significant reforms in the Catholic Church. He was known for his progressive views and his commitment to social justice. John XXIII was also a strong advocate for ecumenism and interfaith dialogue. He was beatified in 2014 and canonized as a saint in 2019.
