Oliver Reginald Tambo

Oliver Reginald Tambo was a South African politician and anti-apartheid activist who served as the president of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1952 to 1959. He was a key figure in the fight against apartheid and played a crucial role in the formation of the ANC Youth League. Tambo was born in Bizana, Eastern Cape, South Africa, and grew up in Nkantolo. He studied law at the University of Fort Hare and later worked as a lawyer before becoming involved in politics. Tambo was imprisoned several times for his activism and was forced into exile in 1960. He continued to work for the ANC from abroad, becoming one of the organization's most prominent leaders. Tambo died in 1993 at the age of 75.
