Mildred Harnack

Mildred Harnack was a German-American resistance leader who played a key role in the anti-Nazi movement in Berlin during World War II. Born in 1882, Harnack was a member of the German aristocracy and was educated at the University of Berlin. She married Arvid Harnack, a German historian, in 1905. The couple became involved in the resistance movement in the 1930s, and Mildred took on a leadership role. She was arrested by the Gestapo in 1942 and executed in 1943. Harnack's bravery and selflessness have made her a legendary figure in German history.
