Former United States Attorney General
Michael B. Mukasey is an American lawyer and jurist who served as the 81st United States Attorney General from 2007 to 2009. He previously served as the United States Solicitor General from 2006 to 2007 and as a United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York from 1987 to 2006. Mukasey was born in New York City and graduated from Harvard University and Harvard Law School. He clerked for Judge J. Edward Lamon Jr. on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and later served as a law clerk for Justice William Rehnquist on the Supreme Court. Mukasey was nominated to the Supreme Court by President George W. Bush but was not confirmed. He has written several books on law and politics, including a memoir.
