Banks has been a central figure in the new wave of Detroit techno, leading UR since its inception. His music is heavily influenced by artists like Marshal Jefferson, Derrick May, and Kraftwerk, and he has a reputation for his strict moral standards, often avoiding public photos. Before his involvement in electronic music, Banks was a professional studio musician.
