Lewis Cass

Lewis Cass was a slaveholding politician who served as the Governor of Michigan and a Senator from the state. He was a prominent figure in the early history of the state and played a key role in the development of the Michigan Territory. Cass was also a strong supporter of the institution of slavery and was a member of the Southern Party. He died in 1866 and is remembered as a complex figure in Michigan's history.
