King of Sparta and military leader
Leonidas I was the king of Sparta from 491 to 480 BCE. He is best known for his leadership of the 300 Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae. Leonidas was a member of the Agiad dynasty and was known for his bravery and military prowess. He was also a skilled politician and was able to unite the city-states of Greece against the Persian Empire. Leonidas was killed in battle, but his legacy lived on and he became a symbol of Greek resistance against foreign occupation.
