John Herschel was a British astronomer and mathematician who made significant contributions to the field of astronomy. He was born in 1792 and died in 1871. Herschel was a prominent figure in the development of modern astronomy and was known for his work on the discovery of Uranus and the discovery of the planet Neptune. He was also a pioneer in the field of spectroscopy and made important contributions to the study of the properties of light. Herschel was a member of the Royal Society and was awarded the Copley Medal in 1840. He is considered one of the most important astronomers of the 19th century.
