John Bruton

John Bruton is a former Irish Fine Gael politician who served as Taoiseach from 1994 to 1997. He was also the EU Ambassador to the United States and held various other Leadership and Ministerial roles throughout his career. Bruton was born in 1947 in Dublin, Ireland. He studied at University College Dublin and later earned a law degree from Trinity College Dublin. He began his career in politics in the 1970s and served in various roles, including Minister for Agriculture and Minister for Foreign Affairs. Bruton was a key figure in the European Union's single currency project and played a leading role in the negotiations leading to the Maastricht Treaty. He was also a strong advocate for Irish neutrality during the Cold War. After leaving politics, Bruton has remained active in public life, serving as a member of the European Parliament and as a vocal critic of the European Union's policies. He has also written several books on politics and history.
