Jimmy Doolittle

James H. Doolittle was a United States Army Air Forces Lieutenant Colonel, Major General, and Air Force officer. He is best known for leading the Doolittle Raid, a surprise attack on Tokyo during World War II. Doolittle graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1921 and served in the US Army Air Corps before becoming a test pilot. He commanded the 16th Pursuit Group and led the Doolittle Raid in 1942. After the war, he served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the US Air Force and was a key figure in the development of the US space program.
