Jaime Escalante

Jaime Escalante was a Bolivian-American mathematics educator and author who is best known for his work at Garfield High School in East Los Angeles. Escalante was a highly acclaimed teacher who specialized in teaching advanced mathematics to his students, and he was particularly known for his ability to help students who were struggling with calculus. He was the subject of the 1988 documentary film 'Stand and Deliver,' which chronicled his efforts to teach his students for the AP Calculus exam. Escalante was a recipient of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards' National Board Award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He is also the author of 'Inspiration for the Children: Lessons from the Life of Jaime Escalante,' which was published in 2000. Escalante passed away in 2010 at the age of 79.
