Hiro Onoda

Hiro Onoda was a Japanese soldier who continued to fight a guerrilla war for nearly 30 years after the end of World War II. Convinced that the war was not over, he remained hidden in the forests of the Philippines, refusing to believe Japan's surrender in 1945. His story is one of remarkable tenacity and disconnection from reality, as he fought against American and Filipino forces until he was finally persuaded to leave the jungle in 1974.
