About Eugene
Eugene Bullard was an American fighter pilot and World War I veteran. He was the first African American to fly combat missions in World War I and was awarded the Croix de Guerre for his bravery. After the war, Bullard struggled to find work and faced racism and discrimination. He eventually found success as a writer and appeared on television shows, including the Today Show. Bullard passed away in 1961 at the age of 74.
