Elizabeth Macarthur

Elizabeth Macarthur (1765-1831) was a colonial Australian gentlewoman and wife of John Macarthur, a prominent landowner and politician. She was known for her strong character and her role as a matriarch of the Macarthur family. Macarthur was also a patron of the arts and a supporter of education. She was a prolific writer and correspondent, and her letters have been preserved and published by historians.
