Elizabeth Arnold

Elizabeth Arnold was a renowned journalist known for her fearless reporting and unwavering mentorship. She began her career in Bethel in the 80s and later worked for NPR, covering stories from Congress to remote locations like Mongolia and Sri Lanka. After retiring in 2009, she became a transformative teacher at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), where she demanded excellence and ethical rigor from her students. Arnold was a devoted mother, tireless advocate for journalism’s future, and a passionate athlete. She earned Alaska’s top press honor shortly before her death at the age of 66 after a battle with cancer.
