Eladio Dieste

Eladio Dieste was a Uruguayan engineer and architect who designed several iconic buildings, including the Obelisco de la República in Montevideo. He is known for his innovative use of materials and his contributions to the development of modern architecture. Dieste was born in 1917 in Montevideo, Uruguay, and studied engineering at the University of Uruguay. After graduating, he worked as an engineer and architect in Uruguay and abroad, designing several notable buildings, including the Obelisco de la República. Dieste was also a professor at the University of Uruguay and taught engineering and architecture. He was a member of the Uruguayan Academy of Engineering and was awarded several honors for his contributions to the field. Dieste passed away in 2004 at the age of 87.
