Edwin Meese III is a former American politician who served as the 75th United States Attorney General from 1985 to 1987. He was nominated by President Ronald Reagan in 1985 and confirmed by the Senate on February 8, 1986. Before his appointment as Attorney General, Meese served as Solicitor General of the United States from 1981 to 1985.
