David Shepherd

David Shepherd was a British wildlife artist and conservationist who was born in 1931 and died in 2017. He is best known for his paintings of elephants, which have become iconic symbols of conservation and wildlife protection. Shepherd was rejected from the Slade Art School on the grounds of having 'no talent whatsoever', but he went on to become one of the best-selling artists in the world. He was also a passionate advocate for conservation and was involved in numerous charitable organizations throughout his life. Shepherd was awarded an OBE in 2000 for his services to conservation and was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2007.
