Claire Chennault was a renowned American aviator and commander of the Flying Tigers. Born on February 3, 1909, in Houston, Texas, Chennault graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1931. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and later became a prominent figure in the development of the U.S. Air Force. Chennault is best known for his leadership of the Flying Tigers, a group of American pilots who fought against the Japanese in China during World War II. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal and the Legion of Merit for his service. Chennault passed away on June 27, 1988, at the age of 79.
