Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger

Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI, is a German theologian and cardinal who served as the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith from 1990 to 2005. He was a key figure in the Catholic Church's response to liberation theology and the rise of social justice movements in Latin America. Ratzinger has been a vocal critic of what he sees as the excesses of modernism and the erosion of traditional Catholic teachings.
