Assata Shakur is a former Black Panther and Black Liberation Army member who was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. She escaped from prison in 1979 and has been living in exile ever since. Shakur has become an iconic figure in the Black Power movement and has been the subject of numerous books, films, and documentaries. She is based in Cuba.
