Alberta O. Jones

Civil rights leader and prosecutor

Alberta O. Jones was a trailblazing civil rights leader and prosecutor in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the first Black woman prosecutor in the city's history and played a key role in registering 6,000 Black citizens to vote. Born in 1914, Jones was a prominent figure in the city's civil rights movement. Her death in 1965 remains a mystery to this day.
