Pioneering midwife and advocate
Agnes Nisbett was a pioneering midwife who transformed stillbirth care in the UK. After losing her own son to stillbirth in 1973, she founded the UK’s first dedicated bereavement ward, the Born While Sleeping program. Her advocacy earned her a Pride of Britain award and an honorary doctorate. Her legacy continues through Leicester’s expanded maternity services.
