Abdelbaset al Megrahi was a Libyan citizen who was convicted of involvement in the Lockerbie bombing. He was sentenced to life in prison but was released on compassionate grounds in 2009. Megrahi was born in 1952 and died in 2012. He was a key figure in the investigation into the Lockerbie bombing and his conviction was widely reported. Megrahi was based in Libya.
