Your Daily Prayer - A Prayer for Help to Spring Ahead with Daylight Saving Time
About this episode
Twice a year, we adjust our clocks—but it often feels like our bodies and routines take much longer to adjust. Daylight Saving Time can disrupt sleep, slow our mornings, and leave us feeling out of sync. While it may seem like a small inconvenience, even minor shifts can reveal how tightly we cling to our schedules and sense of control.
Joshua 10:13 reminds us that God alone holds authority over time. When the sun stood still, it was not human effort that altered the day, but divine power. We cannot stop or stretch time, but we can trust the One who governs it.
Ecclesiastes tells us there is a season for everything. God establishes times and purposes beyond our understanding. Even when change feels inconvenient, His timing remains perfect. Adjustments—whether seasonal or personal—invite us to surrender our rhythms to Him.
It’s easy to grumble when sleep is lost or routines are disrupted. Yet even in something as ordinary as a clock change, we are given an opportunity: will we respond with frustration, or with trust?
God uses seasons and shifts to refine our patience, remind us of our dependence, and redirect our focus. His timing is not random. He makes everything beautiful in its time—even the transitions we resist.
As you “spring ahead,” remember that your schedule is not sovereign. God is. And He is faithful to guide your steps at exactly the right pace.

A prayer for help to spring ahead with daylight saving time. Written by Lynette Kittle, read by Carrie Eichberger.
So the sun stood still and the moon stopped till the nation avenged itself on its enemies as it is written in the Book of Gisart. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. Joshua 10, verse 13. No matter how hard we try, we can't make time stand still, though God can and once did do accomplishes purposes. While we don't have the power to stop time, we do attempt to manage it, especially through practices like daylight saving time. And so, time changes are rarely popular in today's already full and fast-paced lines. Yet, that hasn't stopped our culture from adjusting clocks each year in an effort to manage daylight and accomplish specific goals. For many individuals and families, these changes are met with frustration as they disrupt sleep patterns and throw off carefully planned routines built around work, school, activities,
exercise and more. A time for everything under the sun. Daylight saving time reminds us that shifting seasons and schedules have long been part of both history and modern life. The Bible talks about God too, setting specific times aside for everything as ecclesiasties three verses one through eight reveals to us. There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to uproot. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build. A time to leap and a time to laugh. Time to mourn and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them. A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing.
time to search and a time to give up. A time to keep and a time to throw away. A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be silent and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war. A time for peace. God has set times to accomplish His will. At the changing times are also designed to accomplish God's will in our lives. Still, change is challenging for most of us, which is why we need God's help to spring ahead when adjustments are required, such as during their light-saving time. The Klesiastes 3 verses 9 through 14 explains God's timing more fully. What do workers gain from their toil? I have seen the burden God has delayed on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart. Yet no one can fathom what God has done from
beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink and find satisfaction in all their toil. This is the gift of God. I know that everything God does will endure forever. Nothing can be added to it and nothing taken away. God does it so that people will fear Him. God's timing works for our good to make things beautiful in our lives, to help us enjoy and find satisfaction in our work and in our lives, to fulfill His will and to fear Him in a referential way that brings glory to His name. Let's pray. Dear Father, thank you for sending eternity in our human heart and for making everything beautiful in its time. Help us to spring ahead with daylight-saving time this year in a way that pleases you. Guard our lips from complaining
and our hearts from cultivating resentment and bitterness towards having to adjust our schedules. Fill our hearts dear Lord with gratitude for the gift He has given us to find satisfaction in our daily labor. Help us to recognize your hand in all that we do. Direct our steps at the pace of your timing so that we don't miss a step and fulfill your purposes in our lives for your glory. In Jesus' name, amen.
