00Welcome to Taratimaqa, Nakhiyomi with the OU Women's Initiative. My name is Esthi Kimkhi, and today we will be studying Safer Yoshua, Parik Yutres, Chapter 18. Quick recap of what we learned yesterday. The Banos Salaf had asked Yoshua Nalazaar to come for their inheritance, as we promise to them by Mosher, and it's granted to them. The Parik had listed the Nakhla of the tribe of Manasha with some of the cities of Ephraim, and the Benay Yosuf had complained that they wanted more lab because of their large population. The Parik had ended with Yoshua recommending that they conquer certain parts and build out so that the Benay Yosuf would have more land. In our parrot today, we are going to see the Arun moving from Gilgal to Shiloh, and Yoshua reimbuking the remaining seven tribes who not yet received their land for being laxed and pursuing their inheritances. The second half of the parrot will detail the boundaries of the tribe of Binyomin. Passoq Alef, Vayikahaluk, Khalas, Benay Yisrael, Shiloh, and the entire congregation now gathers together in Shiloh by Yashkinusham as Oha Moeid,
01and they set up over there the Oha Moeid for Hararet, Nakhbashalif Mehim, and the land was subdued before them. They are going to now bring the Mishkan to Shiloh, and it's going to remain there for over 300 years. One of my favorite places to take people on tour as an RIT Israel is to ancient Shiloh, whereas it's known Tel-Shiloh. To be able to stand on Davin, where we are almost a hundred bit certain, was the site of the Mishkan is incredible. To Davin at the place that Khanna Davin foresaan was schmual-served, and where Carbonas were bought for probably around 369 years, which is according to the Gamarans Vachem. It's such an amazing and incredible thing. The first of the researchers, sort of in modern times, to identify the site is a man called Ishtori Harparfi. He wrote a safer goldcafter referach, which is a book on the geography of the land of Israel. He himself was born in the area of Provence in 1280, and he was likely a
03Talmud of Rabbeno Asher, who we know as the Rush. His family was expelled from France, and he eventually made his way to Aritystral fast, lived briefly in Ushalayim, and he moved to Mishkan, and he travels extensively around Aritystral, writing detailed descriptions of the geography of Aritystral. And he writes in this book regarding Shiloh. Shiloh is about three hours due south of Shacham, a bit to the east. It is along a road as you ascend to Ushalayim, and Shiloh will be on your left at the end of the first third of the journey, and they call it Selun. This was the Arabic name. We actually often have that. That's the Arabs when naming their villages retained the biblical names. Today, you would reach Shiloh by driving north on route 60 from Ushalayim. So route 60 is the road that we call Darach-Avot. It's the biblical road that the other Selimahs and later times the Jews walking through the land would have taken. This road stretches in the north from Shacham, and it's a bumpy, bumpy route going over the mountain ridge through the center of
04the land. We pass Shiloh, then drive further south, pass Basel, Ushalayim, and then south of Ushalayim. We pass Baslecham, Gushezian area, chevron, and finally the route finishes by Behrshevah. There were some amazing, amazing finds at Shiloh over the different archaeological digs, including 25 huge storage jugs, they're known as Collarim jugs because of the way they sort of bulge out of the neck. They were discovered on the western side of the tell, and apparently they contained traces of wine and oil, which were to be needed for the carbonos in the Mishkan area. It's quite amazing. The Mishkan was destroyed, although it's not written in the text of the Navi, but we have this where it's hinted at in Safer-Yermiyahu, in Parik, Zion, Pasel-Girbeis, we told Kilachunah al Makomego to my place,
05Hashab-e-Shiloh and Shiloh Hashab-e-Shikhantish Misham, where I first established my name there. Ruhu, as Hashab-e-Shiloh, go and look what I did to it over there, Mipney Raas, Mipney Israel, because of the evil doing, the wickedness of my people, Mipney Israel, and the Mitzurus says over there, she had to also Mipney Raas, Mipney Israel, that I destroyed it because of the wickedness of of Ben-Aisra, when was that? We made Alihakun, it was in the days of Alihakun, and this would have been at the war where we know that the iron was taken by the plishdom. Okay, we now hear in Pasel-e-Base that there are seven tribes that haven't yet been given their portion in the land. The Yivas-Rubibne Israel has Shiloh-Hokwa-Nakhlasam-Shivashvati. There remains a month, Ben-Aisra has seven tribes which are not yet received their inheritance, and this would be, we know that we're moving gods, and half of Manashia have already gotten their inheritance on the eastern side of the Yardin, the Averhari Yardin, ladies up to going to get a portion. And in the last three months, we've already heard about how you who they have found Manashia
07had gotten their portion. So if you do the math, this comes up to seven tribes that still don't have a portion, and you'll show it gets very annoyed with them. By Yomay-Yoshal-Banes-Ral had Anna attend Miss Rapim, for how long are you going to be? And Rashi says Miss Rapim is Miss Rashlim, are you going to be weak? Lavo, Laresha, is her RX going conquered the land that Sharnasa, Nakhem Hashem, and okay, I will say them. The land that Akadash Baruchu has given to your fathers. So what was holding them back? Why hadn't they going to try to conquer the rest of the country, or to take their territories? Marbem says, and Matsutas is going to say very similar, the Fishe-Loh-Ratul-Achalik, Hine-A-Taina, Miher-Isam, they were very afraid, that as Loya Azar, Kalachad-Lakhavir or Laharish-Achalco, they were very nervous that if they would each go and take their nakhala, they on their own would have to get rid of all the enemies, and they preferred the Ratsusha, Kulam-Yikh-Pashub-Yahad, they preferred that they would go out as a group and conquer the rest of the country together, and then they wanted to portion out and give them
13give out for different, you know, portions of lands. So, Pashtag-Dalid, Yoshua continues and says, go and take three men from each of the tribes, so this would be 21 men in total, you're going to get up, walk through the land, describe it, and according to the inheritances, they shall come to me. What was meant to be happening over here? They were meant to walk through the land, and they were meant to come back with information about the rest of the country, where were the mountain regions, where was the water, where were their valleys, and they were meant to come back with all of this information, and then Pashtag-Vava, attempt to move at Harad-Shivakhalakim, you're going to describe the land, you know, how you would imagine it could be cut up into seven different parts, Mahaviyo-Sem-E-Layo, you're going to bring this description back to me, via Rishi-Lakham-Goral-Puk-Lifni-Asham-Anukalo, and then I'll cast a lot here for you before
15Harad-Shivakhalakim. Now Rashi says these were not going to be portions of equal sides, that was not what was going to happen, because, you know, to some tribes, they would need a larger part of land, a piece of land because they were larger, and some tribes would need a smaller piece of land because they were small, as they weren't going to have, you know, they weren't meant to come back and tell them exactly where the boundaries were going to be, and they weren't meant to tell them exactly, you know, the sizes, but it was sort of a scouting trip. The Gammari Baba-Bastra says that the land also wasn't based on amount, but was going to be based on value, so you may have one tribe, I'll give you an example, with numbers, ending up with a quarter of an acre, but the value of this was more than a full acre in another part of the country. As the Gammari tells its Amarabhi-Hiddha-Sahabhi-Huddha, Shavya-Khamish-Sahin-Begalil, so a sum of grain in your Hiddha is so valuable that it's equal to the value of five sum of grain in the Galil area, so we're not just talking about the division of land in terms of size, but we're also talking about the division of land will be an according to
19the value of the land. In Pasakhres, and Yakumah-Anashen-Vayel-Khubi-Itav-Yoshua, the people Galapani do according to what Yoshua told them, and they go to go on their way, and in Pasakhres, Vayesh Ali-Lahem-Yoshua Goro-Bashilu, and they come back and Yoshua now casts the lots in Shilu-Lif-Nayashem before Ashem, the Yikhalik-Sham-Yoshua is art, and now Yoshua divides up the land of Neh Israel to the rest of Neh Israel, but Makhla-Kosam according to their divisions. The rest of the parake is going to describe the portion that the tribe of Binyomin is going to get Pasakhres, Vayya-Al-Goro-Mata, Benay-Binyomin-Lemashbakhosam. Here we're going to now hear about the lot that the tribe of Binyomin got for their family. Binyomin's portion is going to lie between Yosef and Yohada, two kings. He's almost going to be like a buffer between them, and we know that Binyomin had a very special relationship with both of those tribes. Yosef was Binyomin's big brother, and the Medjash-Sez
21when Yosef was sold, Binyomin named each of his ten sons in connection for his Yanik for his lost brother. When the reconciliation takes place in its triumph, it's going to be Binyomin Yosef who hug and crown each other's necks. Yohada also has a special relationship with Binyomin. It's going to be Yohada who offers himself as a guarantor for Binyomin when they take him down to Mitzrayim. Later on in Jewish history, after the spitting of the kingdom, Binyomin is going to be forced to sort of choose, and he's going to eventually side and join forces with Yohada, the southern region, Malthus Yohada, it's going to consist of Yohada and Binyomin. So the actual description of the borders of Binyomin are quite hard to understand, and you really need the text of the Navi open and a map open in front of you, and on one hand, they really should be quite obvious, because we know Binyomin is sandwiched between a prime in the north and Yohada in the south, and the borders really should be the same, but we do see a lot of discrepancies in this parake, and in the procken that describe the borders of a prime in Yohada. And if you think you're confused when you read the Pesikim, the Gamar and Svachem tells us that when Dovet and
25Schmal sat in the Yotor Rama trying to detarm the exact spot where the base Hamigdash took, Aisu, Safar Yoshua, Bakhul Huksev, they're going to take out Safar Yoshua, and they're going to open it up to these procken, and they're going to read these Pesikim trying to detarm and the exact location of the tribe of the base Hamigdash. Now, why is it so complicated? That's what one amazing thought, I think, as we're learning through these Pesikim, these procken, these are the very same, you know, procken and Pesikim that Dovet and Schmal learnt together, but what was so complex about the borders? Why was it so difficult to sort of detarm and exactly where the base Hamigdash is? We know it's meant to be in the Nakhla of Yohada, so the Gamar and Svachem, Nungem, Al-Tazas, Amarabili, Bakhama, Abar, Amar, Rabi, Khama, Barabihanina, Ritsua, Aisah, Yotsahah, Mechal, Khosha, Yohudah, Venichnesset, Vakhal, Khosha, Beniamin, there was this little strip of lamb, sort of protruded from the Nakhla of Yohudah and entered into the Nakhla of Beniamin,
29because the base Hamigdash was going to be in that sort of little space, Vahaya, Beniamin had met the era of Bakholium in the Nakhla, and Beniamin was so agonizingly sad, Beniamin the righteous would agonize over this all day, and he would say, you know, I want the Shakhina to dwell in my portion, I want the Hakanish Barakhu's base Hamigdash, I want it to be, you know, in my Nakhla, and the Fikhakh Zakhab, Beniamin had saddak, and therefore, Beniamin had saddak merited and a smashkeh, he sort of ended up hosting Hakanish Barakhu, between his shoulders, which was part of the Brahma, that he had, Beniamin received from Moshe Rabelum, that because of Beniamin's yawning that he should have some part of the base Hamigdash in his territory he ended up meriting this, and that's why when you look at the borders, it becomes very complicated, you have a bit of length going in and out, and it's sort of Juts out of your hudza and in Tupinyamin. But that's the sort of the confusion. From Pasek,
39use based onwards, we're going to start hearing about the actual descriptions of the boundaries of the tribe. And it's sort of, you know, it's described that it starts in the valley near Yoriko, it goes up to the mountain ridge in Basel area, descends to the area of Atarotadar, which was opposite Lower Basel Harun. And from there, the border turns southwards towards Kiryasi RM. And from that point on, the boundary sort of hugs the northern boundary of Yoriko, which, you know, going from east of Kiryasi RM onwards. The end, I must say, nowadays, when you drive in Aritystral in the area, which, you know, of the Nakhla, the area of the Nakhla of Binyamin, it's very well marked. The area of the Shumron, or if you drive route one east towards the Dead Sea, you see lots of these huge signs that save Binyamin with a picture of a wolf. And I'm never, I love it, but I'm not sure why it's only the Nakhla of Binyamin, it seems to be very,
41very well signposted. Okay, from Pasek, Tess Vav, I'm sorry, from Pasek, that Pasek tells us, those Nakhla's beneath Binyamin, the Gouloseha, Saviv, the Mishba Khosam. This is the Nakhla of the tribe of Binyamin, we have the full borders. And this was the tribe, this was the portion that Binyamin received. From Pasek, Kaffalif, until the end of the parrot, we're going to get the listing of the different cities that are Binyamin's territory. From Kaffalif until Kafftalid, we're going to hear about the eastern part of the portion, which was from the watershed line until the Yardain. And there we have 12 different cities listed. And then the second part of the Nakhla of Binyamin is described in Pasek Cafe until the end of the parrot. And now we hear about 14 different cities. And the parrot ends those Nakhla's to the Binyamin, the Mishba Khosam. This is the inheritance of the tribe of Binyamin according to their families. Thank you for learning this parrot together. It would be safe for you to show us dedicated Binyin and Khaym Shankan, then we've our
