玉堂春回轉院後，王八虔婆軟硬兼施，仍然閉門謝客。恰巧沈燕林二入勾欄院，三人定計，將玉堂春拐慢與沈燕林做小妾。至山西洪桐縣後，皮氏大娘因妒惱玉堂春，將其名改回蘇三，並令春錦捧羊肉麵，毒害蘇三，不料讓歸家肚飢的沈燕林誤食身亡。皮氏見狀，一不做二不休，心生一計，嫁禍蘇三，並賄賂洪桐縣知縣，將其判為死罪，收押監中。
