宋湘，集詩人、清官、教育家、書法家於一身，為國為民有卓越貢獻。宋湘由於過度勞累，在睡眠中與世長辭，靈柩奉旨從湖北移歸梅縣，老友們與一位小女孩，扛起了宋公回故鄉之路。這趟步行路途中，老友們向小女孩回憶宋公的過往，從春天走過冬天，從宋公開書院聊到雲南抗洪災，一路上他們回顧了這位梅縣客家人的一生。
