法海、法明追尋到白素貞與許漢文的消息後，法海決定親自去渡化許仙。法海為讓許漢文相信白素貞是蛇妖，他要許漢文在端午節時備下雄黃酒，讓白素貞喝下，端陽佳節當天，許漢文聽信法海的話，準備雄黃酒讓已身懷六甲的白素貞喝下，白素貞抵擋不住雄黃酒的威力，現出白蛇原形，許漢文受驚嚇而亡，白素貞傷心欲絕，在小青的提議下，白素貞決定到仙山盜靈芝仙草，救許漢文一命。
