宋文彩接到戰表後，在皇帝的旨意下出戰，出戰前向妻子陳氏、女兒宋金娘及宋金花告別，並交代妻子要等他回來女兒才能出嫁。女兒見父親出戰，決定至觀音廟參拜為父親祈福，誰知半路遇上小賊，兩姐妹在小賊的追趕下被沖散，宋金娘恰巧碰上路過的楊懷玉，楊懷玉見狀趕跑小賊，小賊被楊懷玉趕跑後，宋金娘深感答謝之意。
