漁郎王俊江邊捕魚，恬淡生活。相爺魏東侯大壽之日，邀請多位年輕知府到府宴飲，假藉為魏府所養貓咪取名為由，實則是為了觀察、物色未來女婿。
未料女兒魏玉珍看不慣知府們各個巧言阿諛父親，當面嘲笑，並出言頂撞父親，惹怒魏東侯囑咐要將魏玉珍嫁給她所想要的寒士、窮漢。
家僕魏興、魏順無奈受命出門尋找，多日未果，總算遇到一位捕魚郎恰好符合魏東侯所講條件，因此向前搭訕攀談...
