Wrong-Way Crash on I-95 Kills 3, Injures 1

A tragic crash on Interstate 95 in Robeson County claimed three lives and left one person hurt early Saturday morning. It happened around 3.38 a.m. northbound near Mile Marker 5, according to State Troopers. A man driving a Mazda Sport Utility Vehicle the wrong way, south in the northbound lanes, slammed head-on into a Hyundai Sport Utility Vehicle. The impact sent the Hyundai off the road, where burst into flames. The Hyundai carried a driver and two passengers, including a seven-year-old girl. The driver died at the hospital and the two passengers did not survive the wreck. The wrong way driver was hospitalized with injuries, but his condition remains unknown. Officials say speed and impairment do not appear to be factors. Troopers continue investigating the cause of this deadly mix-up on the highway.
