When we tried that system for the first time, I got a text saying, I'm pulling me washing out, I can even me out. It was the odd occasion where, you know, I'm jumping around like a football. I forgot that I wasn't being used to. Somebody said, you haven't done that, that's the goal yet. Oh, well, I don't know how to do that, so... Good afternoon! Ross Stewart is, I think, a nice name to an audience. Oh, honestly, when I met Ross Stewart, I, like, thanked him for elevating my personal brand. So, as it died down, the analyst said to me, actually, it was an own goal. And I went, bleep there, give me the mic. Go score up, let it all in! You are damaging the pitch. We have a game against Brighton on Sunday. He said, $10,000 of an all of you. $10,000 of my weight, yeah?

1:01And $10,000 of mine could be s**t about you. And I went, I don't like those odds. And welcome, everybody, to another edition of We Welcome Your Teams. This is Rich Herst of West Bromwich Albion, and alongside me as my usual co-host, the voice of old Trafford Allen Keegan. Allen. Absolute pleasure to be here, Rich, and of course, we've got Welsh royalty with us today. You know, we've got the dragon is blowing a lot of hot air tonight. So, looking forward to having a chat with our distinguished guest, who's on the back of a roll of some of the highlights of the season. We have time this particularly well, I think, only because this particular guest club was under the limelight, and then some of the weekend just gone. It'll all become clear when we ask him to introduce himself. In the style of himself introducing his teams at his club, followed by the war camp music special guest, taking away.

2:02Roll Cruiser E B, please welcome me. And it hollys. Hey! And what's your club, Emmy? It's Raxam. Here they go, almighty champions. Raise your voices to the anthem. Watching light, almighty army, Raxam is the name. Emmy, this is, this is rousing. How old is this? Oh, it's youngs and youngs old. I think first recorded by a male voice choir in the 70s or so. A lot of people, a few of the DJs of Raxam still have the old single that it was on, that you'll hear is fun every now and then. And that's your war camp music. I mean, I was listening carefully on the FA Cup game you recently had against Chelsea

3:03to see how that sounded. Of course, the tele talk over it at points and they've got the, you know, that's the point. To noise me and it will annoy all of us. That's the point when they put the teams up and start asking questions and run through their intro. I just want to hear the man's intro music. But yeah, it's amazing to hear that. That must be quite something when the teams are walking out to that. Well, the fans, the fans just after that bit where we faded out and goes fearless in devotion and there's two claps and then it's right into promotion and two claps. So we'll normally knock the levels down and all the fans of clap. And I'll give it a punch in the air with a microphone just for good measure. And yeah, it does, it does get electric at the race course with that, with that over the satellite. And I've taken that, that to me sounds like one that will never ever be changed. Now, matter who comes into the club and decides that we need a different atmosphere we need to ramp it up a bit. That's not moving, is it? Well, I think you'd probably struggle to find a better fit than Rexham is the name for Rexham. So yeah, I'd imagine it's going to be, and there's plenty of variance of it out there now.

4:03So yeah, I'd imagine it's here to stay. So look, you are fresh from Rexham's game against Chelsea in the FA Cup, which was an incredible match for many reasons. I mean, absolutely gutted for you that you didn't go through. Can you just kind of, now you've had a couple of days to get over it? How'd you look back on that game, not just from Rexham's point of view, but from your point of view as the announcer? Well, I mean, I'll be way back through the ground after the game. You have your normal sort of checkpoints where you stop and speak to all the stewards. And what was, you know, what was said again and again and again was, think of the Champions League in the week. And we moved the ball just as well as then, you know. But the stretch is the game. I'd argue we were the better. I'd argue for 80% of the game, we were the better side. It was, it was, you know, what a fast-paced game of football. I mean, you know, at the race course, I mean, you know, as we've risen up the leagues, you know, the standards got better. But I mean, I got almost got wet. The ball was, you know, the way we were moving and Chelsea were moving the ball.

5:05It was such a fast-paced game and we really rose to the occasion. It was really enjoyable just watching us play like that. You know, Chelsea in the cup is always a, is always, you know, a very enjoyable fixture. And, you know, to play in a performance like that. And to look, look as comfortable as we did. You know, if you want proof that we're ever good enough standard, I think that's it. Yeah, it's, it's interesting because living where I do, I live in stock potency. So for many years, you had that sort of rex and stock port sort of rivalry, didn't you, you know. Of course. Yeah, you know, yeah. And then obviously you made it up. We missed out on the, on the, in the playoff sort of thing last year. But what, what I have noticed with that particular game we're talking about. You gave your FA Cup the respect and you had a very strong team. Who, who's your star players? Who, who are the sort of, you know, from the goalie to the middle to the forward? Who's the standout players for you? Well, I love after a con quo, he's been, he's started most of the season,

6:06if not all of the season, I think he's a brilliant shot stopper. You know, I, is one goalkeeper who lines up for a penalty, you know, to save, you know, to take a penalty and, and you think, I quite fancy him to save this. Every single time, you know, I, I think he's a brilliant shot stopper. He's after a con quo. Did get sent off against Chelsea, but dobsons are standout for me as well. I, I think he's absolutely fantastic. Didn't play. But, you know, Esa Cabore of the win. I mean, I mean, to be honest, he's the first footballer. He's, you've signed Forexham where I went. That's a footballer. It's got nothing to do with how he is on the pitch. And it's got everything to do with his bright blue Ranger over that was in the car path. Now that was the first, now that was the first footballer's car. I have a sore turn off at the race course crowd. I started pulling. I thought, oh, yeah, we've made it. So, since I love a bit of Esa Cabore, of course, having keeper more, keeper more playing for Forexham, you know, Wales, Wales players just blowed my mind. You know, the standards risen so fast.

7:06I struggled to, you know, they're all, they're all great. But yeah, Mike, if I were to pick, pick the standouts, I think Arthur's great shot stopper and Esa Cabore of the win is absolutely fantastic. Yeah, I quite liked it because keeping an eye on Rexham as well. Purely because, you know, when Ben Foster was with you, you know, it was really good. And I've done some stuff we'd been afterwards. And he said it was one of the best times of his life. If you know, he said he absolutely loved it. I didn't even mention, I mentioned West Brom then. I actually know we didn't have time for West Brom. I'm sorry about that, mate. Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry about that. But didn't he have a last minute? Didn't he save a penalty, then a significant penalty? He did. Yeah, he did. It was the, it's what, it's what meant we could go up automatically. It was a huge, huge moment, huge, huge save. He'll be, he'll be, he'll never be forgotten for that one. Yeah, yeah. All these tenuous links you see, Rich, you know, that's the way it's rocker roll with Rexham, you know.

8:09Yeah, I know. I always, when that draw came out for the Chelsea game, were there instantly people onto you about not, not just about, you know, tickets and getting me in and stuff like that, but more about, are we going to do something different like atmosphere wise for this game? Are we going to play something different? Are we going to change the atmosphere? Well, all the fans, all the fans in the chat were, you know, in all the group chats in the forums, we're all, we're all hyping themselves up. You know, we've got to put on a good show against Chelsea. So, but in terms of the actual, the actual match day, you know, match day proceedings, it was much of the same. We did have a tribute for Joey Jones, well, loved at Chelsea, and of course, Mr. Rexham, you know, 50 years of association with the club. So, so there was, there was preparation for that going on. But other than that, it was, oh, and of course, all the VAR, because, you know, at that stage, they bring in VAR. So, there was a lot of, a lot of people milling in and out of the, the scoreboard room and a lot of, a lot of wires ran, ran between doorways, etc.

9:09Getting that, getting that set up. And that was your, I'm guessing that was your first experience of VAR. Are you being an announcer when VAR gets called into, into question? Yeah, I am, it kind of, I, I only sort of clopped onto it. I mean, I, of course, I'm aware at that stage in the cup, in the VAR, the AR comes into it. But I sort of hadn't thought about it until I found sort of 25 minutes before kickoff where I thought I better find somebody wearing some EFL merch and just ask the question, what I meant to do here. And I was told, just leave it to the scoreboard and I was so happy to oblige there. Yeah. Do you do that? Amazing. Do you leave it to the scoreboard now as well? Do you have to say something, or does, does, um, mandio say something? Yeah. Yeah. Well, what do you, what do you use to say it? And now it's just an automated voiceover on the stadium. I don't, I don't do it because just, I just don't do it. And I'm glad I don't do it because I'm too busy trying to announce a goal. You know, what are you and is it VAR or isn't it?

10:09Well, yeah. That's the thing, isn't it? Once, once you put that into your heads, I suppose sometimes. Were, were there any, you know, obviously there was the disallow goal in here. But were there any other moments where you were like, should I announce this or should I wait, you know, for the rexham goals, I mean? Um, to be honest, rexham score, rexham score. I, I'm still really, really struggled not to just lose it when rexham score. I've got to compose myself every time. I think, um, you know, in the moments after each and especially in a game of that calibrate, the moments after the ball hit the back of the net. I think the microphone went on and the goal was announced anyway. If, if for no other reason than to, than to hear the crowd roar and, you know, let us all have that moment. Yeah. You know, but with a third goal, I mean, it was offside by a hair, you know, looking at it back. But I honestly didn't think it was, was going to go to it. I thought it was on. I didn't think it was going to go to be it. So I, you know, I, I, well, to be honest, it wasn't my finest goal announcement. I think I, I think my voice did go during the, I think emotion got the best of me. A little bit there. I think my voice did go during that final one. And then it was disallowed, which is a bit of a double whammy.

11:11Well, you're allowed, mate. You're allowed, you know, that's what it's all about. Yeah. So, so, um, Rich, are we going to chat with this young man about how he actually got into the gig? Because obviously, uh, you know, it's been a journey for you. So give us, give us the background. Right. Um, you know, I'll have to take you right back to the early 2000s with this one. So, um, really briefly, um, in the early 2000s, the club was in really precarious position. Um, some developers had bought the club. Um, you know, the fans would argue they bought it because they like the land the race course ground was on and that they were trying to run the club into the ground. I'll say no more on that one. But, you know, it culminated on the fan. Should we say leaning on leaning on the owners a little bit and result was the club was sold for a pound to the support's trust. Um, and a board of directors was appointed and my dad was on the board. Um, uh, Spencer's name as he was on the board. Um, uh, I, at the time, you know, before just before this, I used to go, I still went to the games with him, but we were in the mold road stand.

12:15And then all of a sudden I was up in a, in a director's box, you know, uh, uh, you know, I think I was like 10, 11, you know, wearing a suit. And it was, it was a bit uncomfortable. So as soon as I hit about, say, hit about 12, I started volunteering from the house. Um, we have, uh, have a bar at the race course called the centenary club. And I was down by the entrance to that handing out tickets to the exec groups. And, um, they had a problem at the time. Now, once the fans took over, they put in Welsh announcements. Um, and there were two announcements, announcements, announcers, Ivan and David, who do the, who do the Welsh. But both of them lived quite far away and they weren't able to make every game. And, uh, one, one game they needed a, they needed somebody to stand in and they went, well, who speaks Welsh? You know, as a wreck, I've noticed the team and it was, uh, it was me. So I was 14 years of age when I first gave it a go. Um, it's just on the Welsh. Uh, so that was just, just, you know, supplementary stuff. So like, I, I worked with the English announcer at the time, Steve. And I would literally just go, you know, three V and they'd go number one.

13:16And then go in, you know, while doing the team sheets. And then bits and bows, bilingual bits involved. But during play, um, you wouldn't really have to announce everything. Every now and then he'd let me do the birthdays in English and half time. Yeah. But, uh, but other than that, um, it was just sort of supplementary Welsh. Um, and over time, uh, I, you know, back then I was going, I was behind the goal with my mates every, every now and then back then. You are at that age. So I, uh, I didn't do every game. But as time went on, I started doing more and more and then became the Welsh announcer. And then when we were in lead two and Steve left, I, I got, I got a message, uh, you know, with your cover till Christmas. And I said, yeah, no, no bother. And then ever since then, I've kept turning it up and they've kept handing me a microphone. Wow. So, so how many, how many years has that been? Um, well, I'm 24 now. So technically it's, uh, it's, I'm 24, but technically I, I've got 10 years as a stadium announcer under me belt. Hey, hey, are you ready for this?

14:16Go on. When I started, when I started, the mayor wasn't even born. Oh, no, that is, I mean, is that good or bad? I don't know. I don't know. It's just the sign of the times, I think it's the sign of the, you know, the next, the next generation coming through already. It's great. Yeah. And I can't sit in somewhere between the two, I guess. I don't know. Yeah. That's a great story. It's amazing. Yeah. When you were doing the, I'm just interested in that, that coordination between you and the English announcer. Yeah. Like you said there for doing the team. So I'm guessing you're standing next to each other. What with a mic each or handing it back and forth? Yes. So at the time. And, uh, bear in mind, we were not on the league, but, um, the guys on the music were called Andy and John. Um, and they were, um, I think it was John who did it. But they, they were like a, uh, DJs in rexham. And so the music was done. They bring their mixer in their two CD, two CD mixer. Um, and the mics were, I think they were carrying eyes.

15:17Well, they certainly were, you know, the mics that they, that they had that they used professionally. And we connect them all up. And we'd, I mean, they had plenty of, plenty of range on the mind. Uh, and we'd sit the other side of the ground, uh, behind where the dugouts were. And I'd, I'd be sat next to Steve and then, and then we'd have a microphone each. So it would literally be, or sometimes if we were out with double A's as, as did occur. Sometimes they were admitted in those days. We'd just have one between each other. But I did the job. Hey, absolutely. I love that. Yeah. Of course, I mean, you know, that, that, that's back in the day. That sounds system. Of course, you know, you've had a big Hollywood take over since then. And everything's been plowed into the club. So of course, you have a brand new sound system, don't you? Not so. Um, I mean, we are, we are building building a new stand. So I don't think it really makes sense to replace the whole system. And then after messing with it again. So what they've done is they've replaced any speakers that were broken, etc. Just to get it, you know, keep it operational for now. And then what's the new stands built? Obviously, you know, get done properly. But it's a, it's a bit of a, bit of a, bit of a patch up for now,

16:17just to get us to, to went, which shouldn't, shouldn't be very long. But yeah, just to get us over the line. Some of them are, you know, horns. Oh, yeah. You can still see that. So yeah, I think I'm not sure they're still connected, but I'm pretty sure some of them are still the old, the old horned styles speakers. They're not quite derude, sandstormable. But that was going to say, so what sort of sound? I wonder what sort of, I haven't been to the right cause yet. I wonder what sort of sound that creates when you're trying to, I suppose, work on like a big pre-match buildup, and you're still using those old tinny tannels. Fair play to the music, guys. They do dial it in quite well. And they do, you know, it doesn't sound too bad. You're just, especially not considering, you know, you can, you can still make everything out. But it's, yeah, it's, it does need, it doesn't need a bit of fettling. That's it. But it is very much on their list. It just didn't make sense to do it at this point. I don't think. That's the thing we, it all happens so quick. And the profile's groomed so quickly. It's, it's hard to keep up. Yeah. No, fair enough, fair enough. Do you remember that first like official day then that you were the, you know, you were the announcer I suppose from, for both counts?

17:19Oh, yeah. I, I, I, I was, I, I don't think I've ever been so nervous. And I went to different, it's a different thing watching, you know, when, when I was just the Welsh announcer, you know, you've watched the game intently anyway, because of course, you know, you're ex and fat, but it's a, it's a different thing watching the game and having to make the calls. You know, it's, it's got the ball, what minute my end? It's got the ball, what minute my end? And I just, you know, anytime I sort of lose track of that, I, you know, give yourself a job and go, no, it's got the ball, what minute we end? And I try and, I try and just, just anchor myself to that. And then of course, there's watching out for substitutions, et cetera. So it was just a whole other level of, of focus required. And then with there being, with there being just me, I then was doing the English and the Welsh. So there was seamless transitions between English and Welsh. Sometimes when you, you add something to an ounce on the fly, it would be right, let's translate that into Welsh. Let's say that, let's get the English out. So it was, yeah, the scope of the job. And suddenly, the microphone, not the microphone, the walkie talkie was in my ear.

18:20And suddenly, you know, I'm coordinating with scoreboard. You know, you're, you're, you're, you're shepherding the match day a little bit more and it, it, it, you know, the scope of the job grew massively. And I was, I was really, really nervous. Steve, Steve, the previous announcer had been doing it for years and years. So then they were really big boots to fill. And yeah, I was, I was, I was bitterly nervous for the first few games. I did grow into it after a while, but you know, not without a few mishaps along the way. Do you know, do everything in both languages? So substitutions extra time, all of that. It's not absolutely everything. And substitutions are next time we will do both. And we'll read numbers out in, well, then English. And in fact, most, most things during, during, most things are actually bilingual now every day. It's slowly season season after season we've added more and more wealth. But not absolutely everything. But yeah, the majority of things are bilingual, you know, the, which is, which is quite tricky because, you know,

19:21of course, you don't want to interrupt play too much. And if you want to announce after time or something, you know, you've got to sort of choose your moment wisely, because you, you know, you've got basically double, double the amount to say. So it can be a bit tricky to fit it in sometimes. And I suppose it takes a bit longer. Sorry, I've gone. No, no, carry on. I'm just fascinated about like, well, rich normally asked this one, but where are you sort of situated on a match day? Are you in a, are you in a PA box or your pitch side? Who's communicating with you? How does that all work for you? Well, um, the, uh, so the PA box is in the mold road stand. Um, you know, 10 points to the architect, but, uh, you can't actually see the entire pitch from the PA box. Um, so, so I'm, I'm sat across the stadium. Um, they've moved the tunnel across across to the other side. So I'm actually sat, which is rather strange for an announcer, I think I'm, I'm actually sat adjacent to the tunnel, not behind it now or not to the tunnel to the, to the dugout, um, not behind it now. But, um, yeah, I'm, I'm in the, the, uh,

20:23uh, rats and larga stand, uh, right down by where the players come out by the tunnel, uh, which is pretty much as far away from the PA box as you could be in the stadium, I think. But yeah, I, I sit there. I'm on, we're on, we're on, um, we're on radio. So I've got the music guys, which is a company, um, which is a company that does it now. Uh, and the scoreboard guys were all on the same channel. Um, and we'll just roll the years and, you know, give each other countdowns and time, you know, time everything that way. So it's all done. It's all done over walkie talkie. Wow. Wow. And, um, with regards to yourself, what's been the, the highlight or, and what's been the longs, you know, like your best moments and what's been your long moments? Look, um, you know, rex and, you know, rex and, you know, everyone thinks they're football club is special. Everybody in their dog thinks they're football club is special. And I think they're wrong. And I think rex and special. And I think they're wrong. And I think rex and special. Um, it's, uh, it, you know, rex and means, it means an awful, an awful lot to me.

21:23You know, just, just holding that mic. I'm getting to be the stadium announcer is, is, is incredible. Um, you know, so getting to announce the promotions. And especially the promotion from, from League 2 to League 1, because that was my, I, I, I was the Welsh announcer at the end still. Um, but I chose not to do the non-lead promotion because my dad has put that much in over the years. Uh, you know, and it was such a big moment that I, I, I thought, I thought I need, I want to go up and sit with him. And I want to experience, you know, I thought it was coming. So I, I thought I want to experience it with him. But the, um, and I've taken over both by the time we went up from League 2. And, um, in, in, in rex and, uh, there was this, this whisper almost on the wind of a sleeping giant. You know, and, but when we went down to non-lead, there weren't, there weren't many clubs in your big clubs in non-lead. So even since five, you know, for years and years, we were a sleeping giant. We were a sleeping giant. And for me, you know, we'd only been in the championship or, you know, the old division too, what? So for me, League 1 was about our level.

22:24And I remember it happened. The fans stormed the pitch. And I just, I had this almost moving. I looked down, they saw me as I saw the microphone. I turned it on. And I just said, the sleeping giant is awake. And it was, uh, and honestly, that moment was, uh, was boom. I thought, and, you know, to be the one, to be the one to say it, um, was just, yeah, was, was magic. So, you know, the favourite moment was probably the League 2 promotion, um, because it was the first promotion on the mic. And Jesus, I wasn't used to promotion. So, uh, my, literally, my entire life, as long as, I mean, I do, I have brief flashes of us in the League before, you know, Juan Agarte, and, uh, and a few of the other players. But I, I don't, you know, I didn't really remember us in the League. So, literally, my entire life, I've been waiting for rexies to get promoted. Every season, it was all my, this is the year, this is the, you know, and everybody get, you know, we've signed some, pretty tight of what you play as a preseason. It was a bit of a revolving door back then. So, we've signed, you know,

23:24we've signed up a new squad of preseason, and everybody get hyped about it, and everybody convinced themselves that this year's the year, um, and it would never happen. So, you know, to get to announce the promotion, and they just, and to say that, it just, it really felt very full circle. It felt, and to be the one who did it, and to be honest, I've never felt anything like it, to be honest, it was incredible. That is cool. That's probably my favourite moment. Miss Haps, um, there have been plenty. I'm prone to, I'm prone to, you know, I don't think I could, I could, non-excitedly announce a rex and go, I scream it down the mic pretty much every time. It's just, I can't help myself. So, uh, once or twice, or I tell you what, actually, so before again, just before we kick off, um, you'll say, uh, let's back the boys and make some, you've got to back the boys and make some noise, and then you'll go, online rex and, which means forward rex and, it's like I'm, like in, like a yellow, an army to march or charge, or whatever. Um, and I remember one, one game,

24:24now, I was, we're saying at this point that I was in university, um, at the time, and I've been out the night before, and my voice, you know, it wasn't, it wasn't absolutely perfect, and, you know, I'm not talking a little voice crack, we are talking the full, up, down, left, right, you know, um, uh, he rex and, and I thought, you know, and the crowd were roaring, and I thought, you know, you tell yourself, I thought, I got away with that. Anyway, I'm having a brows, you know, on the chat later on, and somebody brought it up, and I just, oh, at that moment, I was, I went out, I went red in the face, I was, it's, and it's, right on kickoff, as well, so, it's a big, you know, really, if you think, if you think of all the stuff we do for matches, really, those five minutes between, sort of, five to kickoff and kickoff.

25:24That's, that's, that's the bit, you really don't want to, mess up until, everything goes decided, So not a pressure, yeah, requires, I committed, I committed on my first time. No, I took a deep breath, and I thought, right, well, if you're gonna do it, you better do it. So I, and nowadays I try and hold it, I try and hold it for not too long, because when you close the whistle, I don't do stuff. But I try and hold it for as long as I can. Sometimes I'll overshoot it. I'm not having enough breath to say the rex and properly. So it's a bit of a calibration, but yeah. You know, the lungs tune like an opera singer by the end of the next 10 years, honestly, that'd be probably fixed up. Okay, it's back to the chat with our guests shortly. So because you're reading the teams in two languages, you know, it takes you obviously twice as long to do your team reads. So do you do that quite close to kickoff? So we'll do one team read.

29:47We'll do about half an hour before kickoff, maybe slightly before, depends on how the stadium's feeling. I sort of played that one by ear. And we, the team, it's just just the numbers you'll say. So you'll go, for example, reading number one, reading number two. So you can get that out relatively quickly. But we time it with scoreboard as well when we go through the recs and lots. So we've got the timings between the players cycling about right so that you can just about fit it in. But it's, yeah, it does take a bit longer to get through. And of course, you can't trip up. You've got to really be in a rhythm with it. Because I mean, if I said the wrong numbering well, sure, Miss Red, there's been some sort of car crashes where I've got, or I've got numbering, read one, or something like that, you know what I mean? You can get a bit jumbled if you've really got a lock into a rhythm with it. Because it's two languages. One of the things when it was two of us was one of the things that was raised was it was a bit clunky.

30:48I go reading, and then the karaoke mic take a second, and they go, no, no, no, no, no, no. I mean, it would be a bit sort of slogged a little bit. So I try and I like to pretend I'm on the radio. I go, reading number one. Do you know what I mean? I try and I try and get it nice and smooth. So but it can be a real challenge. Sounds brilliant. Just going off track slightly, Rich. Is your dad still involved? He's been given an honorary vice-presidency, so he's still in the fray and he's still catching up in the director's box of a game, but in terms of involvement now, other than a bit hosting in the boardroom, that's really what he does. That's great, but at least he've kept him on and they've recognised his role and the work that he did before the... He had two full-time jobs. I've never known a man work as hard, genuinely, I've never known a man work as hard. He'd be up at five in the morning, he'd go to bed, you know, or he'd stop working at nine at night. He did it completely voluntary

In fact, he even donated every penny, you know, if he'd go to an away game and you know, that that was expense, he'd figure out the cost and he donated back, you know, the ticket, etc. He donated back to the club, he never took a penny, so... Yeah, so... Good on him. Good on him. And... So, I was just going to say, does it mean that whilst he's still around, your job is safe? No, it's gotten it's gone. Some people would believe that, but no, I... There's a lot of people don't, as well, there's a lot of people do. Some people haven't quite cropped on, that he's my father. I suppose, you know, those listening to this on their now, but yeah, a lot of people haven't cropped on, but no, he has no, you know, those days are gone. Although he did, he was the one who had those initial phone calls with Rob and Ryan, so that was, I think that was his last act. In fact, I've got a story about that. I, at the time, it was in my first year at university and I, I, I gone to visit my parents and go out with a few

32:52of my mates in Rex and when I came down the next morning and I was in a dressing gown, thinking, it's slightly sorry for myself, and I went through the living room and I just looked, I just looked to my right. And my dad was on a video call with a guy who looked extraordinary like Ryan Reynolds, and anyway, I went to the kitchen and I made myself the cup of tea and I said to him later on, I said, oh, he was that fella. He looked exactly like Ryan Reynolds, that guy. He went, yeah, he gets that a lot, he got it said. Another two months went by, not a clue. He didn't tell us. I mean, of course, look, I mean, you know, too hot, you know, too big, big Hollywood guys interested in buying your football club. He did not want to, you know, nobody involved wanted to put up a wrong there. And yeah, so it was really, it was kept on the wrap really well. Yeah. What, what, what, I know Rob was the instigator, but what was the why Rex and why did he initially choose Rex and obviously got Ryan involved later on? With what's that? I've loved the documentaries, by the way, you know, I've thought they've been brilliant, but what was that initial, I can't remember the connect Rob Charles Rex. Well, I think

33:56Rob, Robert had gotten into football or he'd watched documentaries or something about football in the UK and he'd gotten into it. And then he spoke to Ryan about the prospect of owning a club and then you know, taking them through the division. And they had an idea that they wanted to do that first. And then they started looking for football clubs. I know, I'm pretty sure they looked at Macklesfield as well. And there were a few, there were a few clubs that they considered. And I think Rex and just, just the story and it really, you know, it checked all their boxes, you know, he had the infrastructure, it had the support, it had the potential. And I think they just really liked the story, you know, and the fans stepping in and saving the club and, you know, all that. I think that, you know, I'm not them, so I'm not quite sure what the deciding factor was, but they were interested in buying a club and doing what they're doing and it just so, you know, and they made their inquiries and they eventually decided on Rex and I'm very glad about. I'm guessing they tried to have an influence on, you know, the match day playlist

34:59or what goes on on the mic. Yeah, I haven't, haven't touched, haven't touched any of that. There's not, no, there's not been any, not been any, any Hollywood influence there. Mind you, you'll see it half time now. We've just started implementing somewhere. We do some games on the screens at half time and some bits and bits. So it's getting a little bit more, you know, more of a half time show at the race course ground. So, you know, perhaps that's a little shred of influence there, but no, they've, their whole note was them and they recognize how important and what the club meant to the fans and what the, the specific vibe. Rex and Hazard, you know, everyone thinks they're football club unique, but I think Rex and Hazard are really unique vibe. And I think they tapped into that and they recognize the importance of its preservation. So they, they, they haven't in terms of, in terms of that got involved. That's, that's to their credit, to be honest, I think. Yeah, well, the Sunderland fans will tell you more from their documentary about when the new owner's trying like middle with the match day experience and the match day music and how badly that can go. So yeah, they've probably learned some valuable lessons

36:03there. Do you, do you see them around on match days, you know, like when you're in? Well, I first, I first, you know, my first encounter with Robin Ryan was, they came to my house for an episode of the documentary, which I didn't know about until just before I was, I was stubborn home from university. And at the time, I had, I had, we'd done a November challenge. And in you need to raise some money and we'd broken our thresholds. So I had to dye me air blonde. And I looked like just a pound land M and M just with this blonde quiff. And they came, you know, and they turned up and they did a bit of filming. Luckily, I don't think that footage was used and then they came back a bit later on when I managed to sort them off. But they, yeah, they, they, they did pop around. And I remember, I remember just being a bit, a bit star struck. And I remember just banking, banking them profusely, especially Rob at the time, because at the time, you know, he was the, he seemed to be the one who was sort of driving it and was dead excited. So I, I ended up and I

37:05kind of mad. No, I won't say I regret it because it's on, it's on video. But I handed, I handed them on the way out a signed version of the matchday program from the Arsenal FA Cup game in 1991 where we knocked Arsenal out the cup. I had it, I managed to rustle this up on eBay years prior. I found that and, you know, just seeing them around the race course. I got Mickey Thomas since walking to the goal school to sign it. And then just in a moment of passion, I just gave it to Rob. And I just went, and he went, no, no, no, no, thank you, thank you for buying Rex. So, so yeah, they were, they were, and they were really excited. It was pretty everything at the time. So they were really excited and passionate nowadays. I mean, to be honest, that was pretty the mop. So I'm not sure they recognized me nowadays. But, you know, I give them a nod on the way down the stairs as I go past if they're, if they're in. But I'm normally, I've not, you know, I'm normally, it'll be as I'm coming out to, to do me first announcement or something that I'd run into them. So I'm, I'm not a bit, I'm quite laser focused. So I, I don't have much time to check.

38:07No, time for these Hollywood zone shows. I've got work to do. I do vividly remember a kid asking me for a photo was Ryan went past. And I did walk with my chest puffed high for a few days after that. I was pretty happy with that. That's cool. So I am literally sat in the stands with a, with a little folder with me, with me script and me mic. So generally, the people around me are the same sort of, same few people every time, but it's not like I'm not on the media bench. I'm not, I am literally just, just sort of file the wall, man on the ground. So it's,

39:10it's a bit of a, a bit of a rotation of, of staff and people who have sort of friends and family of the players who were, who were sort of around me, where I am at the moment. So we have a, and I'm quite far away. I'm the other side of the ground from where the port goes up the substitutions as well. So we'll have, you know, whoever is around me is recruited as, as my eye for, for the duration of the game to what you're coming on and off. But yeah, it's, it's a, and I, I'm, I'm so sorry if you're listening to this. I don't know your name. There's a lady. She brings me a kick-out every game. I've forgotten her name. But the, they left last

41:12season and then a company came in and took it over. So they're given playlists, etc. by the media team and they, they sort of hit go. It's normally a rotation of two or three people. Yeah, it's a company that come in and do the music. And then the playlists just curated by, I mean, I, I'll ask for a, I'll ask for a song every now and then, especially if we're winning, you know, the goal school, you know, whichever action player scores the winner, I'll ask that their song is played at full time. So I do get a bit of, a bit of sway there, but I don't decide the music, the music quite yet. I have been asked to take over that in a bit more of a, a bit more of an official capacity, you know, making the playlist pretty much and stuff, which would be, which is going to be nice. But, you know, that's, that's a nice bit of, bit of influence to have. Yeah. Of course, yeah. I mean, we had some fun with back in the day with Andy. I remember, I think Shrewsbury came and for a half time, we literally just played the entire Wurzles back catalogue. It was just, oh, you've got a brand new combat, it was just, I mean, we had, you know, we do, we try and wind up your wayfans, we do all sorts back in the day.

42:18I'm absolutely all for that. And if you've found you've got to do it a little bit less now, you're climbing the league and you're a bit more responsive. Oh, yeah, it's been, it's, it's got been a lot less of that. There's a lot less of that. There's a lot less of that. No, those were the non-week days. Those were back in the day, though. 43:18it's time for the birthdays and we'll, we'll read them. And Jesus, I mean, God, everybody, everybody send it a minute. And I love it, really, but it's always from about eight people. It's happy birthday, you know, happy birthday, barrel from, and then you get just this cohort of everybody they know. And it got out of hand a few seasons ago and I'd have, I'd have like two and I have a four sites of birthdays to get through. So, I don't know what a, what capacity they, well, what they've done now, but the list's got a little bit smaller. So, I assume it's a bit harder to get it read, but you've just, you've just given me some awful flashbacks talking about announcements on the big screen. So, I don't know if, I don't know if you saw. Unfortunately, it did get picked up on social media and shared around quite, quite heavily. But we had, we had, we had an announcement, make it to the big screen, which is from a made-up name, which if you read it in the, if you read it in the wrong way, well, basically Andrew Peacock

And luckily, if we haven't read the messages for a while, we've just put, we just started putting up on the screens. But yeah, when that, that went out, honestly, and it didn't help that day, we got smashed by Coventry as well. It was the big game that we thought everybody needed to come and stand up and be counted. And that slipped through the net, you know, you got about three. And now, of course, everyone checks and double checks and triple checks and everything to make sure it gets, oh, God, it's awful, because you just know, don't you? And the, I'm so glad I didn't read it out, but it's too late with social media now. That's it. It's gone. So it's, yeah, it's been a bad day on the pitch and a bad day on the screen as well. And it just went everywhere. You know, you have to kind of say to someone, yeah, you do. God, we haven't, God, we could do a whole night on the problems of having earpieces in on a matchday. Yeah, yeah. And you've only had it for a year, mate. I've had one for 26 years. Beginning from the first day. So, yeah, that never changes. No, and do you know what, that reminds me now. Any other time that I've been studious doing literally by myself, looking around for someone to speak to. Nothing before the five minutes. Like a band and complete loner. Yeah. Um, you know, we'll, I think it's due to be, I don't caught me on it, but it's, you know, due to be 15,000 plus plus seats after that goes up. Well, I mean, yeah, I don't know who the Welsh announcer is actually for, um, for, um, Millennium Stadium's life principality at the minute when they play their home games there. 55:44and, you know, sitting fairly, fairly stable in the playoffs. And if it's next season, two places below you and you still have a chance to go into the playoffs. Again, look at what we've done in the cup, you know, I fancy Rex and in a big game nowadays, which isn't historic, you know, historically, big game, you'd be like, oh, you know, we rise to the occasion nowadays. So, you know, I, I, I don't think it's impossible. And it's certainly coming. You'll see us in the Premier League eventually. I'm absolutely human about that EFL decision about the championship, you know, playoffs extending to seventh and eighth, because the, what the one time, the one time that Albin and nowhere near those positions, they decide to, and from the, from the looks of things, we won't even be in that blooming league next season either.
